Today I ordered the organs of a prisoner to be removed, another one needed food and one colonist was in medical bed. I had to forbid them all because my doctor just didn't get to sleep and I was worried he could just fall asleep during his work.

On a sidenote: If you set like three operations to a patient, the doctor should take three medicine at once instead of hauling a new one for every operation (this could avoid situations like the prisoner waking up and being mad about only having one kidney left).

When I try to upload a picture it says "The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved."

What does that mean?

In the early Alphas your buildings got damage over time and needed repair. Why was this removed, I think it would be an interesting thing to consider when e.g. building a far away thermo generator. Especially with the function that only things n your homezone get repaired this could lead to interesting situations.

Bugs / [W|0.8.652] Crafters don't carry finished things

My stonecutting bill says that the crafter should haul the finished thing to the best storage, but instead he just leaves it on the ground. He's not incapable of hauling. Experienced the same with butchering, but I thought this was because there are two different itmes created.

So, when Tynan came up with tempature and seasons, I asked if there would be just one harvesting season per year, like in reality. He said no, because that would be a really big change, but out of curiosity, I did a little math example.

- Best case you have a NPD with resynthesis, maning nine potatos per meal
- A colonist eats two times per day (I think?)
- A RimWorld year has 12 months with 15 days each
- You start with three colonists
- One tile can hold 75 potatos
- A potato plant gives (now) an average of four potatos when harvested.

So you would need storage capacities for 9,720 potatos, meaning 130 tiles, and with the current output 2,430 potato plants as an absolute minimum, without having emergency supplies for blights, new arriving colonists, or fires. On the other hand, hunting and drop pods and raids on visitors/siegers aren't count in here either, so i guess at the end you would be somewhere around those numbers.

What do you think about that?

One of my colonists started with cataract and the got half his right eye eaten up by an iguana. So far so bad, the eye was down to 4/10 and my colonist had sight 0%. The first "logic" that hapenned was that he still got bad thoughts for seeing corpses for whatever reason, the second "logic" was when I got a bionic eye from a trader and ordered my doctor to remove the eye (because I thought I could sell it) and implant the new one. I couldn't sell the eye but when it was removed...the sight went up to 15% again!!!

So this might sound like a silly question, but what exactly are the gameplay effects if your colonist has sight 0%? My blind guy can still research and heal, but I haven't tried shooting with him jet.

So in the early Alphas there where growing zones with a set amount of tiles which where supposed to supply 1-2 people. So now I wonder if those zones were 4*5 or 4*6 (or even 5*6?) tiles big, because this is important when deciding how big my zones should be. Maybe you could add this in the description becasue I think this is a rather importent info.

Bugs / [W|0.7.581] Prisoners stand up during healing

I captured an incapped raider and told my doctor to heal him, but when half of his wounds where healed, he got his consciousness back and left the bed (while still bleeding). Now I can't make him go to bed again, I even changed his bed to a medical one but he refuses to use it. Force wardening also does nothing. Also note that I use sleeping spots in my prison and the doctor weren't using medicine. Maybe this is related.

So I just captured my first raider and because I want to recruit him I told the doctor to heal him, but during this he got his consciousness back and now he's walking around with untreated wounds and still bleeding! I already marked a sleeping spot in the prison as medical but he's still refusing to use it. Is there any way of forcing him back (without beating him unconscious again of curse) or do I have to hope that he survives till he get's back to sleep?

Support / Installing RimWorld

After reading several post from new players who fail to install RimWorld properly I decided to make a step-by-step guide on how to install the game. This guide is for Windows only as I never used a Mac, but if someone could write a guide I will include them in this post.

1.: Donwload the game. If you have trouble downloading it you should start at this thread.
2.: Create a new folder where you would like to install RimWorld, preferably outside your download folder, for example C:/Programs/RimWorld
3.: You will get a compressed file which you need to uncompress/extract with a program of your choice like WinRAR, WinZIP or 7zip. I will make an exapmle with WinRAR because it's the program I use.
4.: With WinRAR, select "Extract to.." and then choose your RimWorld folder. Note that WinRAR needs administrator rights do extract directly to that folder. Alternatively, extract in your download folder and that copy-paste in your RimWorld folder. The exact methods of extracting may differ with other programms.
5.: Right-click on "RimWorld581Win.exe" and select "send to..."->"desktop" to create a desktop shortcut. The number in the name depends on the game version and ".exe" might not be displayed depending on your system settings. You don't need to run an installer.
6.: Double-click the symbol and enjoy RimWorld.

I hope that every player having trouble installing the game can find his problem solved here. If it's still not working for you, please state at which step you're having problems and what are these problems so I can help you and eventually change the guide if needed.

General Discussion / How do seeds work?

Maybe I'm to dumb but I just don't get how they work. Another topic asks for cool world seeds. Does that mean every seed is tied to one world map? Then why it's says "generating world" instead of "loading world". And if someone names a seed and shares it, how does my game know what map belongs to this seed? And finally, whats the difference between the "reset" and "randomize" button in world generation menu? As far as I can tell, both generate a random seed.

I was just writing a post about repostioning in combat in the friendly fire threat when I had the idea of a covering fire/suppression function: The preson would shoot at a much higher rate of fire, but with a greately reduced accuracy (maybe even force miss). The person he covers would have decreased accuracy and maybe even longer aim-time because he need to doge some bullets. It's pretty much the same like in X-COM and from experience I can say that it's one of the greatest abillities in the game. This would also even up the odds against the larger enemy waves where you are 3 to 1 short-handed and be a use for the bad shooters in your team or even the people who regret using weapons, because they wouldn't actually shoot at someone. When your soldiers reach a high shooting skill, the chance to hit someone with suppression could be increased.

Another obivous use would be to haul incapped colonists from the battlefield. Atm, this means even more wounds or incapps in most cases and it would be great to have something to counter this.

Some time ago I saw in the changelog that you will be able to change the storyteller midgame. My idea is to implement a structure you need to build (like the ship computer core) which would use the AI persona core as a resource and with the new stuff system the material would decide the storyteller. E.g. cotton (I think cotton is implementet in A7?) would represent Phoebe, metal Casandra, and Randy would probably be a mix of all materials in the game.

General Discussion / How to survive

So, I've played RimWorld for a pretty long time now, so I would call myself an experienced player, but there is still something I just don't get. Everywhere on the forums I read something like "I'm in year 2", "well in year 1.5" and so on. So I'm wondering how you can survive that long, with me, there's always a large raid (tribals in most cases) which wipes out my base around june till august, this time it was in june. I'm playing on randy random most times, don't actually remember what challege I play, but I think it's ether rough or challanging.

It's quite frustrating to play for a long time without any progress in the game (I experienced similar things in FTL) so I wonder if anyone can help me.

I want to create a floor you can build on mud to make it useable, but there isn't an affordance unique to mud, does anyone know how and where to add one?

Off-Topic / Star Wolves 2 still playable?

I just bought an old game called Star Wolves 2 which I've played years ago and wanted to play again so I installed it on my Win7 64 Bit laptop. When I was told to restart my PC to install copyright protection it hang, I had to run Windows repair and when it was up again, half of the game datas were deleted!

I googled a bit and learned that the copyright protection StarForce was apparently a bunch of crap so nobody wanted it so it never got an update for 64 Bit systems. Also, the game has no official Win 7 support.

Is it still possible to play the game? Maybe just with compability mode? I don't want to try until someone can tell me it works to not crash my PC again.

I can't help. With every new Alpha I get the feeling that an ingame day is shorter in real life then in the previouse Alpha.

Luckily it was just one scyther because it was just April. Casualties were one lung and a clavicle. Could've been worse but I think you can imagine my heart stopping when that thing crashed in my base.
