Why do friendly visitors not help colonists in need of rescue?

Just wondering, because it seems like only abnormally cruel people would idle about and chat while they saw someone bleeding to death a few steps a way.

EDIT: because so many of you seemed to have missed the first sentence.

It has already been fixed for Alpha10

Visitors will now carry away wounded guests from their faction.

Well, I can think of at least one reason they shouldn't: If their medical skill is very low, they could potentially do more harm than good. Also, the colonists are kind of your responsibility. It's not up to the other factions to make sure things run smoothly, it's up to you.

However, one feature that could be nice would be to be able to call for medical help from friendlies. This could (at the cost of silver or reputation) spawn a skill 5-10 (randomized) NPC who beelines to your base and hangs around for a day or two, doing nothing except eating (your food), sleeping (in any unowned non-prisoner bed) and treating anyone (using your unforbidden medicine) in your home zone who is in a bed assigned for medical.

I typed that response first, then I saw that smickles was talking about wounded colonists, not wounded visitors.

Ah, I seem to be on 9.

Okay, just to clear things up:

In Alpha 9 and previous, NPCs never help anyone for any reason.

In Alpha 10, they are supposed to be able to carry off wounded from their own faction (only) when they leave the map.

Oh, so they'll still mill about and watch anyone else die.

Yeah they're assholes. That's really the long and short of it - they're assholes.

Apart from the EXCEPTIONALLY rare random event whereby a friendly faction sends a TINY force of their own extremely poorly armed pawns to help you during a raid, they just don't help you at all
A prison yard is certainly a slightly more elegant solution to Cabin Fever than mine...

I just chop their legs off... legless prisoners don't suffer cabin fever

Keychan

If you're being a the moral goody colony, then it comes down to you to saving the downed visitor.  I believe there's a bug where they're legless and you're stuck with them.  Next update they'll carry their own away, but won't try to heal their own before they die.  I usually see a downed visitor as a resource.  I would usually be compassionate, but seeing as they don't benefit me, that devilstrand hat looks better on my colonist.

All you need now are dicks and pussies. Then we can add the Team America faction.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

Heh, I made the mistake of rescuing one, not realizing her leg was shot off.

Now she's a medical bed potato eating up resources with no hope of rescue or repair. I can't fix her leg without capturing her and pissing off her tribe, and I'm too nice to let her starve to death. Someone really needs to take her off my hands.

Mathenaut

Actually, in Alpha 9 you should have the option to 'rescue' people not in your colony. You basically just slap them on your medtable and heal them, then they wander off.

It's stated that this is supposed to increase faction relations, but I haven't seen that bit of it working yet.

Darkhymn

If, however, they're missing a leg, you can't operate on them, so they're just there forever unless you find an inventive way to euthanize them.

Yeah. It's still a game, so I guess the AI isn't supposed to play it for you. I guess the point is for you to be responsible for your own subjects.
