I like where this is going. I'd also like to see the npd be incapable of giving your colonist food poisoning, it doesn't make sense to me that a machine that is designed to make meals would make you sick. Maybe it already doesn't I'm not sure because I don't use it haha. Also I like the point that it could store the food paste which would make it nice to have early on so you don't need to make a freezer to hold your food. Just plop it in and it will keep it "fresh". Just my thoughts, I'd like to see it actually be useful.

Since I play with Less Incident Trolling, the flares don't bother me too much. For those of you still dealing with it, however, I'd gladly support expanded functionality. Insofar, this is almost tempting enough to consider over mealing. Even in harsh environments.

Food poisoning ? NPD makes you forget about food poisoning. If you have bad cooks, less than 6 with no passion, it makes sense to just use NPD at least until a cook comes by. You may cause more damage than the +0 mood is worth.

Lavish meal: 20 food including meat
Nutrient paste: 6, 5 with research. Clearly the tooltip is wrong, that's nearly 20%.

So, NPD negates food poisoning?

I checked the wiki, it says mood is at -8, i take it gets to -4 with research?

I'm always postponing upgrading because i'm always waiting for that next alpha with all the mods i love

Why does lavish meal set the bar here? fine meal is 5 veggie 5 meat, +5 bonus and it doesn't take half a day to make.

The wiki is very inconsistent in how up-to-date it is, to the point that I think articles need to be marked as to which alpha it was when they were last updated. I've seen stuff written during alpha six on there recently.

It's -4 from the get-go, and there's no chance of food poisoning.

Also, I agree that fine meals should set the bar. In addition to Mathenaut's points, they have the highest profit margin.

I don't know if it's the research, but the wiki is badly out of date. It says things like stone floors needing 5 blocks, herbal medicine can't be used for operations, LMG firing a burst of 5, doors acting as conduits, ship cryptosleep caskets requiring 750 steel, and mortars costing 150 steel (they do - only if you make them out of silver!)

Lavish meals - I just wanted to point out the potential food saving. With research it's either 2x or 4x less food. Maybe you should just try a NPD and see the difference ?

I'm definitely trying the dispensers next time i update, although i wish they didn't look so ugly and cumbersome and bad at wall blending (personal opinion).

Would still be nice to have it deliver already processed food under a power shortage tho', and ofc unable to process more until power is on again. Something like it processes an x amount of paste each time you put food in it, and keeps it stored. Surely it must have some kind of internal refrigeration.

TrashMan

- Reduce size

- possible research to improve taste

Well... it takes a bit of micromanaging, but you could let your hungry colonist get a paste meal then tell them to consume another, and just keep repeating until you have a small stockpile. Place those meals in the fridge and voila.

Fun fact: Eating food raw requires more than simple or fine meals - 15 items for a hungry colonist, though it can be all veggie. Just storing some actual simple/fine meals would make more sense than eating raw unless you have surplus.

Trying out NPD. Sadly, I broke down and got a mod that reduces it's size (not sure why it's so huge to begin with). Have to say, this might be my new go-to for harsh environments.

Though, I'll have to see how this new stress system handles when it comes out. Not sure if I care for that -4 with a damocles sword of other penalties hanging overhead.
