Off-Map exploration

Hello everyone!

Here is my proposition.

Explore planet/off-map exploration
Basically you assemble a team of colonists and send them around a planet to explore generate radnom events.
It could be done in several ways - here are my ideas:
- Assemble team and duration of exploration is limited by provided food (better food provide longer lasting exploration mission. Team than takes resource (food, wood, weapons, alcohol) and goes off maps. After that RNG gods take over and different events like capture colonist opportunities, explore ruins, discover secret stashes, encounters with other colonies, etc. Of course, risk of losing colonists, or provoking attack on base.
- Random event pops up where you can allow colonist to embark on different kind of off-map scenario (raid for resource, prisoners, recue your take colonists, explore abandon ruins or ship debris). Selected colonists leave on event for time and after a while return with end results (food, items, prisoners... or not return at all :) )
It provide some risk/reward logic, where you risk running colony without some colonists during prolonged periods of time, spend resources in outfitting exploration team, but provided benefits (in resources, uncreatable items, prisoners, volunteers) would be enough to risk it.

You could do it with cars. Build a car(on parking spot), then fuel/charge it, stock it up with food and medicines and release your team.
I would imagine it would be done in a way similar to launching a ship to orbit.
You can make decisions on what team does through comms console.
After few days, team comes back and parks car(maybe damaged a bit) on parking spot.
Any looted or scavenged  parts(as well as your team) will spawn around vehicle.
Thats it.

Would be nice to be able to run 2 worlds at once, one with your colony and the other one with your traveling team. But I am not sure if it is possible.

The idea come regularly. (search 'vehicle' for example)

Myself I see the idea as a way to get plot/ending-related resources (like AI-core) without needing to put them on every map or relying on events that drop item.
A possibility to run 'both' side could be to... play the Exploration team first, then the home-colony for as long as the Team was away (rarely more than a day).

I have no doubt the concept is technically perfectly workable to play "explorer team", "scavenger" or trader.
The REAL problem with this concept, is that beyond "Can Tynan program it ?" you will have people asking for the ability to constantly expand over the whole planet, have trading between colony and so on...

That said, having a global-map wasn't part of a big plan for Tynan.
On one side it mean it won't happen in a long time, on the other side it mean it still could happen.
"Sam Starfall joined your colony"
"Sam Starfall left your colony with all your valuable"
