Hello, i dont know if this has been posted already. I am new to the forums.

Is it possible to prevent batteries and solar panels from getting on fire?

How do you mena on fire? By way of thunder or shortcircuit or rain? Batteries catch fire/explode when exposed to rain. Thunder is non avoidable for solar panals which need to be outside, but batteries inside are safe from thunder (like everything else on the inside). Shortcircuits are non-avoidable, as far as I know the only thing you can do about it is getting all the important stuff zoned as home, so that colonist will automatically put out the fire.

Thank you, i didnt know that batteries will be safe inside. But my Panels are exploding every 15 seconds.. Is there any way to stop the rain? Like DMX - jk

Solar panels should not be short-circuiting from rain. If you mean from the random "ten million volts have discharged up your asshole" event, then sadly, no, not unless you're able to run everything on geothermal power alone.

If you can do that, you'll have no need for batteries. If not, you're screwed.

The only thing I can suggest you do is have a secondary battery battery stored up in case of 'splosion, to hook up to your power grid immediately, and be smart as you can be about fire safety.

from my experience, Ive only had the explosive electrical overloads when I was hoarding too much stored  power from having too many charged batteries. Ive combatted that by having battery arrays that I can disconnect from the power conduits once they are full.

I've seen quite small discharges on a single battery or so. And also, when a base gets big enough, even with two geotherms running, it can deplete a large battery bank in under one night, let alone a solar eclipse.

That's why I tend to keep four banks of about ten batteries or so-ish hooked up at all times. And preferably that same number in reserve, just in case.

I tend to keep multiple reserves available, mostly for reasons of space and practicality.  I usually make a modular base that resembles an apartment complex.  I can combine four bedrooms rooms together to make a dining center, 8 rooms to make an armory, 6 rooms for a mid-sized reeducation center, and 2 rooms for a battery storage site.  Half the time when I'm filling up the batteries, the power explodes before it's done charging, so I always have to be wary of fires when charging or reconnecting them.

Heh. My current base looks similar, but I can make a combination commissary/bedroom/comms room out of just two of my bedrooms!

I'm also seriously considering installing explosive charges literally around the battery ranks. So that if they have a fuck-up, they self-destruct completely rather than starting a fire and risking all my morons - I mean minions - I mean colonists - running into a burning battery bank and blowing up when the batteries go.
