Removed Missile Item

There was a missile item that was in vanilla Rimworld. It was removed in alpha ~6. I don't think you could actually use the missile item but could someone please explain to me why was this item in the game and why was it removed?

It was originally described as ammunition for cannons. This got switched to mortar shell.

if you had the experimental editions, you would know it was from the missile launcher, back from when rimworld was actually going to be a game about building and managing a spaceship. the more you know.
