All of you pesky raiders and cannibals, can't you all just get along!? :P

Joking out of the way, I always find myself rocking some type of farming colony; Mass producing plants and bi-products from crops and selling them out. Now with animal breeding (IF I WERE ABLE TO DO IT! *rage*) I can now start my own abattoir consisting of squirrels and rabbits ahaha.

You feed the rats to the cats and the cats to the rats and get the catskins for nothing.

I totally agree. I also go for a pure farming/abattoir colony.

I farm the weapons and clothes of people that visit, then slaughter them for meat and skin.

Yeah, I'm mostly very nice. I have yet to slaughter any humans, and it never even occurred to me that I could sell prisoners into slavery.

Though I may actually start doing the latter. There's something hilarious about capturing pirate raid survivors and selling them back to the same pirates as slaves.

I've been playing for several weeks and I've only killed one prisoner, today, because he was brain damaged. So I'm a softie :)

Generally i vary the play style based on the over all traits of the main colonists (when using randomly generated ones anyway and not custom ones form the prepare carefully mod.)

If the initial group is comprised a psychopath miner,  escaped convict that's a cannibal, and a  very neurotic abrasive space pirate, then that colony's not going to be a very nice place for people to visit, with most prisoners not outliving their usefulness. (I called the place Murder-Ville, so it's not like would-be visitors didn't have a clue about the inhabitants.)

On the other hand, if the initial group is a iron willed frontier marshal, sanguine military cook, and a hard working space marine, things are going to be a lot more disciplined, and generally law abiding and "safer" for folks to frequent with prisoners being rehabilitated and recruited when feasible.

Changing how I run the place based off the starting groups traits and professions adds a bit more variety to things, and it's interesting to see how the colony fares in the long run when governed in different ways.

When using the prepare carefully mod I've had fun recreating a few custom groups as closely as RW game mechanics will allow and seeing how things turn out. (such as remaking the Firefly Crew, or a colony comprised of  several major villains from the Final Fantasy series.)
