Food Paste Usage

I dont think I understand the food paste machine.  Does it draw food from the stockpile or do you have to have hoppers right beside it?  I always put hoppers right next to it for food, do I not have to do this?  Do you put hoppers in the stockpile area for this machine?  Do you even need hoppers?  The hopper says it works for this and turrets but I saw no purpose to having them by turrets yet.

You have to put them right beside the Nutrient paste dispenser.

put the hopper right besides the Nutriend Paste machine.

Also make sure the machine is powered and that the hoppers have higher priority than your food stockpiles.

just so the opening of the hopper is NOT against the paste dispenser

What about putting hoppers on turrets? Is this just thing for ammo when it's implemented or..?
