Your best colonist?

So, there's always that one colonist in each of our colonies that we're always rooting for and no matter what they're just not allowed to die. It might be because they're an utter badass or that they have lots of good traits and seem to carry half the colony on their own.

Currently my best colonist is a guy called Dadealus 'Dade' Lebowski.
He's not my best fighter to be honest, but he is pretty handy with his charge rifle. This guy is a great bear of a man made even larger with his set of power armor. His construction skills are unparalleled anywhere in the universe and his skills as a doctor are not far behind. Not only this but he's pretty handy with crops and social work. He was also one of the original three to crashland on the Rimworld. He is pretty much the father of the colony. Or, if you will, the "Dade" of us all.

So, what colonist is your favorite? Have there been times you've lost your favorite in a tragic way? (Of course you have) What badass feat have they accomplished? Or, what awful deeds have they committed?

Well, once I had a colonist named Strapping, he was 80 something year old farmer who could barely do anything. But he went through so much and helped so much in the three years of the colony that I grew attached to him. The day he died, let's just say. I had to step away from the game for a bit.

That sucks man. When it looks like one of my favored colonists isn't going to make it I tend to put them in a cryptosleep casket and then wait to build my ship. That way I can fool myself into believing that I saved them. (As a side note, one of my favorites was actually called strapping as well)

Don't have the save any more,  but a man who specialized in construction,  had careful shooter / optomist / anti substance (whatever  its really called)  traits,  and capable at most other skills(at least enough i thought he could substitute without botching the job badly) . He was always an essential sniper,  and one i was extremely protective over,  and he was the rock of the colony,  even when everything else was going to hell he was reliable to get stuff done,  whatever it was.

My favorite thing was he was also a praying man. When others played horse shoes drank,  ect... He prayed,  inside his room,  every time without fail. I found this very unique,  considering the sometimes dire situations,  and given that everyone else was a drinker and prone to breaks.

I think i eventually got enough silver to get him a few augments as a sign of admiration for his unfailing faith / temperament,  and him never really failing,  even in messy circumstances.

Though,  in the same colony,  one guy headshot a raider with a molotov,  then later made a statue about it after said raider was recruited.   I kinda like him just for making art based on setting someone's face on fire. ESPECIALLY when the guy is still around.

Funniest part is the molotov instantly incapped,  before anything else hit.. Not that I'm shocked,  if my face got set on fire,  I'd probably go down too.

Sadly, I couldn't save him. A bunch of raiders (or mechanoids, don't really remember) dropped into my hydroponics room while Strapping was planting. I tried, oh, I tried to save him. But he got shot straight up dead before my fighters could save him.

Strapping is a character I've seen a lot, actually. He's been in, like, three of my saves and he is always the best at pretty much everything that needs doing. Gotta shoot a raider? No problem. Gotta grow more potatoes? No problem. Gotta cook some meals, build a jail, kidnap someone, stop the rampaging Thrumbo? No problem!
Magic Conch, my least favorite colonist (who has cataracts and is incapable of Dumb Labor) is bleeding to death! What should I do?

"Nothing."

THE MAGIC CONCH HAS SPOKEN!

I had a guy called Ryan who was just amazing at crafting and his work with a firearm just as good, he was also one of my founders and i grew so attached to him, i think mainly because we shared a first name. I ended up being attacked by a group that was besieging the colony and out of nowhere he got by an artillery shell, long story short he died out in the cold, with no company in his final moments :(

In hindsight if i was able to save him he would have been useless as both his legs were gone if i remember correctly.

Hm, my Strapping was great at those things, but too old to actually do them well.

That sucks, once one of my guys got his femur shattered. I couldn't yet get and prosthetic legs so he was pretty much screwed and was quickly killed and harvested. and welcome to the forums! this is a good place.

Not gonna lie, this guy is now my hero.

Yeah,  im really,  really bummed out that this happened before the social update,  cause i could totally see the mutilated ugly raider,  who has very little  chance of finding a lover due to facial burns,  taking a knife to him when he found out,  enraged that his mutilation was made into a spectacle.  At least I'd like to think so.

Then again,  said raider was pretty fucked up from it,  the fire spilled from his face and burned off his hand and a foot while he was down,  so maybe he would be too traumatized to say anything.

Seriously though,  a molotov to the face... That is painful.

To be honest Dade isn't my all time favorite. That titles goes to 'M' he was on one of my old saves from my old laptop, in my original fortress design (My first large, late-game colony) and he was an utter badass with a sniper rifle. I had two Ship parts land within months of each other and he took them out pretty much by himself (To be fair there were more 2 centipedes and one syther in each) and if you wanted someone dead he was the one to call. The day he got bitten in the eye by a squirrel was a sad day for me. That was, until I installed a bionic eye AND a bionic leg in the same day. I also made him a devilstrand Duster and hat. He basicall turned out to be my bionic bounty hunter.

I tend to like quite every random character who turn up on my map and has some issues, because it creates long stories in my head instantly.

-One of my big favorite was Inigo, she was in my three firsts colonists and was only 15 years old, so I tried to protect her because she was just a kid. She became a good sniper and lost a leg if I remember well, but she left the planet at 23 years.

-I had a tribal raider I found on the floor after a really cold night, his name was Comba, and I suppose it's on purpose but "combat" in french means "fight". This guy survived hypothermia, but I really thought he won't make it because when the doctor finished to patch him up, his blood loss was 98%, he also had an infection but survived with some herbal medicine. So he really was a good "fighter", and quite lucky too xD but I couldn't recruit him because he had 99 of difficulty. I just let him go.

-On one of my recent colony of only 4 girls, I have one named Genevieve, which sounds very french too, and she is the only one who can do doctoring, hauling and cleaning. So my first thought was "Woah, the french girl is the one who works the most ? That must be a bug..." and that really made me laugh so I love her ;D (also, if she dies, the colony die xD)

It does in English,  too. Also gives us "combatants" and "combative". :)

...

I didn't know that.

While I'm using Combat Realism just... all the time. Thanks Devon, now I'll go and buy some bionic eyes, they may help ::)
