maybe, but there are a bunch of traders carrying fertilized eggs...

They do. I tamed 4 turtles, 3 females and 1 male, in the first three seasons, the first eggs hatched in the 5th or 6th season I think, and then it took another 3 seasons for the babies to become adults and probably another 3 for the new females to lay eggs and their eggs hatch. So you'll need at least 3 years to begin having a real turtle population if you are not lucky enough to find fertilized eggs for sale.

And, well, they are certainly not worth raising, specially in a map like mine where half the year there's no grass and it's too cold for the turtles to be outside so you have to feed them yourself. Between ~100 turtles and like 10 alpacas I went through ~40000 units of raw food and some good days of cooking last cold time just to feed them, I'm doing it because I think turtles are cool and different.
