Victory shmictory. Even on Civilisation, when the "you have been defeated" screen pops up (I usually lose to some politician NPC victory or space race) I keep playing.

This is the type of game I don't play to win. I'll build the ship and leave at least once, just because it's "there to be done" but otherwise I just play to see how long I can last.

There is no real pressure on the player.

Many, many points of Rimworld design contradict the idea that you're supposed to build a ship and leave. 70% of the game is about making your colonist happier, more comfortable and making them wear and use better items. For every way a colonist can get hurt or die there's 5 ways of making things prettier. The game's website doesn't mention the words "survival", "escape", "ship". And when you leave, you can't even take your pets with you!

At this point adding children makes much more sense than insisting Rimworld is a survival game. And I'm not happy to say this.

I agree and support this.  Some people want to win...only...they can build the ship.  Some people just want the game they've spent 8 in-game years playing to be able to have an impact, however small, on a different game they're playing.  Those are the people who this suggestion is for...it also gives completionists one more goal to work towards, which extends the playability of the game for the "I did it, I'm done" people.

Shameless promotion of my own thread, it's about making several different ending based on many different win condition.
I'll appreciate bumping so people know it exist.
"Sam Starfall joined your colony"
"Sam Starfall left your colony with all your valuable"

Write an Event
[Story] Write an ending ! (endless included)
[Story] Imagine a Storyteller !

hell yeah! not sure how they would do the mechanics but i definitely  think you should be able to do something like this. should be able to play other towns and have people you use to control come visit your other colonies. with the new relationships they have in the game its not impossible to save certain names and keep track of them. i think getting off the rim world and calling it game is so lame. i want more story in the game with no clear goals but to simulate life and be a part/ help mold those stories.

I agree, it would be nice to have the option of staying. I've often thought that maybe there could be a decision/vote meeting about staying once the ship is built (could use something similar to the 'party' mechanic). It makes sense that some people wouldn't want to leave the village they'd spent lots of time building up and making friends in, and other people would want to try to get home.
Like I have an old colony that has a cat lady with lots of cats, she was heading off to set up exactly this set up, why would she want to leave? I think it should be up to individual pawns to decide if they want to go. Of course, you can play god and send some people off and make some stay as you want/as you think they would want, but it would be more interesting this way.

I think that alot of these suggestions are kinda arbitrary or over the top.

You'll want something like a 'town hall' structure or a 'nav beacon'. Something that requires a resource input on par with the spaceship. Perhaps a building that requires connection to a grainary (Requiring X amount of food), a farm (X amount of 'herd animals', like muffalo), and a population of X people.

This will flag the same 'end or continue' prompt when completed. Keep playing your town, or start a new colony, with your old one represented on the map.
