What a colonist can do should DETERMINE his joy activities

Incapable of research (Intellectual) --> No cerebreal joy (chess table). Also no study (telescope)
Incapable of social (caring, etc) ---> No 'relaxing socially' for him/her
Incapable hauling, cleaning (dumb labor) ---> no horseshoe pin, it's too simple and beneath him/her, and too much work!

This would force players to seek out new joy activities for some colonists. Either that or completely get rid of the "incapable of skill X" idea, and replace each incapable with 0 skill + no passion. That takes surprisingly long to raise, believe me.

TBH I read the title as meaning that colonists should prefer more enjoyable joy activities if they're available (i.e.: Why do my colonists keep playing horseshoes when I built a home cinema?) and liked that thought, but I like the suggestion you have as well. Though incapable of shooting is what would lead to not playing horseshoes, I'd think.

Also removing "incapable of X" would make finding a dedicated cleaner irrelevant. Cleaning takes (IIRC) 3 work and isn't related to any skill levels that I know of, and speaking personally I know that I'll always value a potential prisoner who can do next to nothing except clean over a prisoner who can do some redundant things but can't tidy up.

-1 it's already severely unbalanced the amount of colonists incapable of some type of work, i got news for you, if you're incapable of anything you're food in my colonies, count on that!

If someone is incapable of something like intelligent work and they play chess, make it so that there's a chance they lose that incapable trait. It can just be a flat 1% chance, so it's not game breaking and not worth the effort to make someone constantly play chess to get rid of the trait, but it would be a pleasant surprise for them to suddenly lose that negative modifier.
