Dumb Labor experience

Seems a bit annoying that 'dumb' labor jobs (Plant cutting, Hauling, Cleaning) never improve with experience.  IRL, people who do labor jobs get better at them from a combination of figuring out tricks over time to save pain/time to just building up a physique for greater strength/endurance.

I hope its worth considering ... if it is, I suggest the following as effects of greater experience:

  • Hauling:  Less of a speed penalty to haul stuff like chunks or big stacks of things
  • Cleaning:  This one is kinda tough since actually cleaning a mess happens so quickly, but maybe a longer reach with higher experience to effectively clean a whole room faster?
  • Plant cutting:  Faster cutting/harvesting, would really help out cutting Oak trees or harvesting Agave which take several seconds; maybe with higher experience, a slight chance that when chopping wood that a new tree takes its place and/or higher yields from chopping/harvesting?

Plant cutting depends on skill actually - Growing.

It never improves experience on mouseover, even when growing does, and never shows passion, even when growing does.  It always stays at Experience Level 3 that I've noticed along with hauling and cleaning.

well... i dont want to get to snooty here but i think the idea is dumb labor can be done pretty much as well as it can be done by someone... dumb. so even if your the best floor sweeper in the world you might only really be like 5% better then some random dood who works at megalo mart

bionics increase the speed of all work done! heh...

No, people whom are experienced and build up strength and endurance can do labor jobs much faster than inexperienced yahoos.

I do sweeping, and I'm a lot more efficient at it than most folk.  If you go through life looking down at folk in service jobs and feel you are above them, that's a defect on your part.  If you can't handle someone saying a particular job gets easier with skill because you think the job is stupid, that's a defect on your part and doesn't match up with reality.

For anyone with half a brain, the more you do any job, the better you get at it -- the more you can do with less effort put into it.  So sorry this concept seems to offend you.

this is ted

ted is an accountant

ted fishes on the weekends.

imagine ted sweeping a floor

now imagine ted crafting a 50 caliber assault rifle from a solid billet of steel.

which one is ted further from? which one is ted furthest from achieving 100% quality or efficiency?

in math i was taught the chances of anyone in my class becoming president were zero, because basically the chance was so low we were being taught that it was the same as zero in a practical sense.

i think the difference between ted trying to make an assault rifle and ted trying to sweep a floor are that far apart.

Completely irrelevant to the fact that doing labor a lot makes you better at doing labor.  You don't seem to be supporting your argument at all, just throwing out random words.

In my experience cutting down trees takes more skill than planting potatoes. Seems a little fishy to call lumberjacking "dumb labor".

Again, every job improves with practice as you learn new tricks, learn to organize subtasks better, or with any physical jobs you grow muscles over time for greater endurance and strength.  I get that folk are intolerant to what they view as 'dumb labor' because they view it as such.

I'm just saying, as someone who has planted/harvested thousands of plants, and cut down thousands of trees, I would rank planting as the skill with the least room to grow (get it?). I could go into details about why I find this to be the case, but I don't think it would be of much interest to people.

And having worked on a farms (granted it was doing biochemical analysis, but yes I would stand alongside the farm laborers as I had to grab 100 lb samples of potatoes to conduct analyses on), I would very much beg to differ.  There's a reason some folk are said to have "green thumbs" and others not.

Unfortunately too many people IRL think dumb labor jobs are just that, and there's no room to improve while working them.  I'd bet very few if any have done 'dumb labor' for enough years to know that's a common delusion rooted in classism.
