Stonehearth absolute waste of money, makers don't update, and whenever they update it's a new block.......

I do have to interject here. They do update but I guess they're not working fast enough for you. They update fairly regularly and if you read the dev blog every Tuesday, you'd see what they were doing (most of it at the moment is in the backend which you don't see) and you wouldn't spout absolute crap.

Stonehearth is a lot more forgiving that Rimworld atm, but then again it's still at an early stage, and a lot of the bad guys haven't been added yet.

I so very badly want stonehearth to be a good game, I love the graphics and feel of the gameplay.

That being said I have to agree that where the stonehearth is now I wouldn't recommend it.  The game has a large amount of bugs, very little content, and slow development.  Maybe in the future I'd be recommending it, but I think the game really has a long way to go.

I think we can add Planetbase to the list.
I am very much looking forward to that game, but can't say much about it until its actually released.

Starbound might not be like Rim world (Terraria in SPACE!) But I like playing that game and building colonies there. Albeit the colonists aren't doing the world.

I've sunk WAY too many hours into Starbound. I would have never thought I'd even like a game like that, and then it just SUCKED me in. They are adding stuff pretty regularly too. It's been in beta a long time though, and I look forward to seeing what it's like when it releases.

I am surprised no one has mentioned UnReal World...

Never heard of it.... I browsed their website just now but found it highly confusing D:
Doesn't really seem to be related to Rimworld though...not at all a similar genre, is it?

Yeah, "UnReal World" doesn't seem to be similar at all.
Selling broken colonist souls for two thousand gold. Accepting cash or credit.

UnReal World is maybe more similar to Dwarf Fortress than RimWorld. The Unreal World UI actually reminds me of Dwarf Fortress, with the top-down game view on the left and menu on the right.

UnReal World is definitely an RPG though; you only control one person. Similarities to DF/RimWorld include a skill system, detailed character healing, randomly-generated world that has seasons with weather and temperatures.

btw UnReal World is free if you want to try it. It's easily the best late iron age Finnic RPG on the market http://unrealworld.fi

One game not mentioned here, that actually brought me to RimWorld is Retro-Pixel Castles. I can recommend this one, quite fun and has some sweet hand-crafted pixels.

Easily the best: "This War of Mine"

Like some others here, I just couldn't get into dwarf fortress through I tried once or twice. Graphics killed it for me. If it had rimworld graphics I'd prolly be playing it

Speaking of Maia, it's still in development (last release this month) but slow and the dev hasn't got the core right yet. The forums look like ghost town squared. Colonists breaking down and not building hydroponics room, colonists starving with food rations in storage, IMPs with awkward mine/haul priorities... the game seems especially rough on the priorities side.

Maia is very ambitious, and it's hard SF instead of Rimworld's space opera/space western (I don't know what possessed Tynan to claim Rimworld is hard SF! I hope he no longer does that.). You have atmosphere generators, water, 3D printers, DF-style separate diagnosis + treatment, researching artifacts or fossils, etc. If something is very unrealistic Simon probably won't do that, whereas Tynan is game mechanics first kind of guy it seems.

Check out the models and animations! It's obvious why the development is so slow.

Last I checked Maia was somewhere around 0.37 or 0.43 Or something, I've been keeping entirely apprised through his twitter however, So I hadn't gotten the impression that it was that buggy...

QuoteFor naught point five eight could you please just do a bug build? Cause the game is still suffering from some serious and continuing errors. The priority system is rough at best and people don't seem to be prioritizing water at all, and IMPs aren't hardly any better. Lots of rough stuff that's currently in the game that could be cleaned up before more features are added.

Response:
Quote+LL6869 Yeah going to tweak the holograms so a red blueprint is visibly janky without needing the colour cue. As for the priority build I am also thinking how to make that better. currently the double click VS the usual pickup just doesn't feel good at all.
