Hey, how come the forums doesn't have little rating icons in which you can give messages? I guess this is a suggestions/mod/stories depot for rim world but there have been tons of discussions that I've wanted to show my support, but don't wanna wake/refresh the thread. You know since i wouldn't be adding any actual input.

I'd be interested in opposing views or the daunting obstacles that would have to be crossed to obtain such a feature, As i'm sure there are many. :D

As far as I know from my limited knowledge,  having one of those counters, per post would increase the serverload somewhat.
I know Integers use up significantly less space than say a regular character so it's probably not that noticeable, But hey, a death of a thousand cuts.

From my experience on the Paradox-Forums it always includes the danger, that revenge ratings make the system more or less meaningless
(i.e. Poster A gives a posting of Poster B a negative/low rating ... Poster B reacts immature and, as a "revenge", seeks out Postings of Poster A to give them a negative/low rating)
(on the other hands this depends on the poster seeing which person/s positively/negatively rated his posting (which is the case on the Paradox forums))

Wouldn't a thumbs up Only button fix that? If you cant down vote, then the only problem would be Revengeful thankfulness and kindness. "rate up for you, rate up for you and you"

With One rating button being a thumbs up, people can still show support for main discussion points.
I just feel bad for Tynan because people are going to be like "add combat realism to the core game..... (thumbs up icon) x 100 " .

My first thought when reading the OP were the Paradox forums. I'm not active enough there to really know the social dynamics and revenge ratings (they're anonymous, you have to be pretty loud and stupid to get into a downvote war.)

Still, it may still save a bit of space. When a read a post that doesn't need an addendum, I'm perfectly content to just agree with it and move on without posting.

...

That's actually not true (just checked into my Paradox account to verify that this hasn't changed) ... you even get alerts when someone rates your posting (together with the info about who rated and what rating he gave).
See screenshots below (Names and Avatars of the Raters, as well as Threads and Postings that got rated are blacked out, of course, for sake of anonymity)

But I agree, anonymity of raters as well as being able to only give out positive ratings would do a lot in order to prevent revenge ratings
