I was wondering if scars in real life really cause pain and if they weaken the tissue that much (in-game, scars are lowering HP of body parts and always cause pain).

After googling it, it seems scars can in fact cause pain, but it seems like its rather an exception, not the rule.

I'm just really annoyed because pretty much my every colonist has a scar and gets -5 or -10 (medium pain mood debuff) because of them. In my opinion there should be scars that cause pain and scars that dont (which could be random or based on more complex medical knowledge).

Also, i just noticed that a colonist with a scar on her head has lowered consciousness to 96%. I can understand scars lowering moving or manipulation capacities, but consciousness? There is really no connection between a cut scar on your skin and your consciousness.

It is very true, I have a large scar on my arm from a stab I received when I worked in a prison and then another huge one on my head from an ice accident. The one on my arm, which cause some tissue damage, doesn't give me any pain at all; however, the one on my head, which they just glued shut, causes me to have head aches and every now and then depending on the temperature some moderate pain.

So it seems like scars should be totally reworked then. More variety in scar types and how they work etc.

Serenity

Yeah, I noticed that too. If you have scars from having your torso torn up, pain makes sense. But not necessarily for having a small cut on your arm.

Maybe have small and large scars depending on the severity of the wound.

I'm curious, what exactly is an "ice accident"?

I agree, scars should not cause pain. I have a few and lots of people I know and no one I know has ever complained of pain. I can see it making you less social (visible scars), but that's about it.

Maybe scars is a catch-all for any lingering effects of an injury. For instance, I lost a finger and had it sewn back on. The scars cause no pain, but I have a touch of arthritis in it that does hurt sometimes.

Ok, having had a couple of motorbike accidents, I can speak from experience (since I am like a topographical map, below the neck).
Scars generally don't hurt.
Sometime, one or another will sting, or downright hurt, but it's not common.
It will be more realistic for scars have a 10% chance of being painful at any given day.

My bet is less on ice and more on skates :)

I have several small and tiny scars from incompetence with tools :)
One of them feels weird because I hit the bone with a sabre saw and did not see a doctor afterwards ..
but that is all.
I have to confess I never broke a bone in my life, so I can't compare this, but I think Scars are to OP :)

in any case, look out for painkiller implants. i always buy them and have some stored for that moment when your most precious colonist has one too many injuries and needs a perma-fix

Also, the painstopper is installable on prostophobe colonists.
I guess you don't see something embedded in your brain.

There are natural ingredients which helps to remove scars but it takes times and depend upon the cause of scar. You can also opt for surgery as it will remove scar with less time.

Ragnarok

Differences in scars would be nice. Most don't cause pain but a few do, though the ones that do cause pain would be related to the location or what caused it. You could also designate which scars cause pain and which don't by what sort of medical intervention was used. No medicine/bandage would be more likely to result in long lasting pain than if high quality medicine/bandage was used by a skilled healer.

According with the fact that scars may or may not give pain, it would easily fit with that mood "feeling good/bad" that seems to have no triggering reason, it is random (am I wrong?)

So if a pawn has scars there would be a "today my scar hurts -5" or not, just randomly.
And as always.. sorry for my bad english

I think there should be the option to "rework" a scar in a medical operation, which would include to open the scar and have it stitched. If the operation worked, the pain would be gone.
