How to raise relations with the factions?

I  created a post about lack of traders and caravans nearby and checked if any faction are friendly to me. Noticed that only one were in the green area and someone noticed that relationships may be related to number of caravans recieved. Then I realized I know nothing about ways to improve relations with the faction.
So far it seems to me that to raise relations by +15 with the faction you have to capture and release a prisoner. But during raids relations seem to revert back to -100 or so.
Is it even possible to  have positive relations with pirates or agressive tribes? To gift them with silver you must have certain level of relations but it's a cursed cicle - to improve relations you must capture them and to capture them they must be captured.
Should I capture about 8 prisoners and then release them at once?

I've never tried that out myself, but if you have 8 raiders downed, I think it might work.

One at a time works in the long run. It's rare that you capture more than three.

But in my last game I somehow downed eight tribals. Turned my hospital into a makeshift prison. But in some sleeping spots as I didn't have enough beds. Forced my doctor to treat everyone. Saved all and they became friendly after all were released.

You can also buy some goodwill at the comms console. And you can request caravans for 600 silver.

Yeah but to buy goodwill you must have certain amount of goodwill, which is almost impossible to raise from -100. That is the problem for me

In my games there are always 2 factions that get no relations bump from releasing one of their people- spacers, and the pirates (?) that are always pegged at -100. I don't think I've ever had a tribe that I couldn't eventually get above 0 within a few game years without spending any silver.

Agreed. I've seen no evidence pirates respond at all to released prisoners, so they are your permanent enemy.
Probably for the best. Without pirate enemies, you only get mech raids.

Tribes always respond to releases, making them able to be your friend if you make a persistent effort.

Interesting, I released quite a few prisoners in my recent colony and never got any faction changes so thanks for bringing this to my attention.
