Hi there,
I was wondering why hydration/dehydration isn't implemented as a part of the game mechanics, since it would be a logical extension to the food/hunger mechanic.

Furthermore as for buildables a hydroplant for power, wells/water pumps to get it up from the ground, use the water for farming, animals, to prevent or at least alleviate heat strokes, and so forth.

Also maybe implement aqueducts, drain pipes, toilets, sinks/wash, laundry mechanics, sanitation, craft soap, showers, sprinklers for the farms.

Furthermore, adding the hydration system as describing above would still be a subject to affect the outcome for the colony, not only for the better, could potentially be for the worse. Transmittable diseases from the lack of purification of water, etc etc :)

i always thought it odd something along these concepts were never implemented into the game.

QuoteNo plans for this. It works in The Sims because sims have really no responsibilities besides taking care of their own needs, so they can spend all their time doing that. This supports having a ton of needs.
In RW colonists have a lot of work to do so the needs have to be a lot more lightweight.

Squiggly lines you call drawings aka "My Deviantart page"

RawCode

it is not "odd" it is different game about different activity.

nobody likes to watch how pawns waste entire day walking, cloud watching and eating, this is not sims.

Draegon

I personally think it could be integrated with relative ease. They could just drink with meals unless they get dehydrated in deserts or something.

I was thinking a good idea was to make the map generate wells so that you could build a water pump on them.

the pawns go to the water jug connected to the pump and drink from there.

Also the ability to drink out of streams or rivers but then get a chance of disease (Hep C?)

BlueWinds

I'm not terribly interested in a water need for people, but I really want it for plants.

Growing food in the desert should be a problem. Hiding in your mountain hole and keeping your hydroponics watered should be a challenge. Outdoor crops can benefit from rain, helping to make them more attractive compared to indoor ones.

Needing separate meals and water bottles is the sims - venturing out to the river to repair your damaged pumps during a siege is Rimworld. :D

OH thats such a cool idea, maybe have some kind of humidity harvester for your cave which pulls a certain amount of water out of the humidity in the air?

O Negative

A water need in a survival game doesn't suddenly make it into The Sims, or even comparable... Nevermind the fact that Sims don't even have a water need ::) That argument is garbage, and should be thrown away lol

BlueWinds has the right idea, for the most part. If you're going to expect growing plants in the desert to be a problem, you should also expect staying hydrated in the desert to be a problem...

He kind of half quoted Tyrian with the sims thing because the question was about water and hygiene not about strictly about water. Also I totally agree it's got nothing to do with sims there are many survival games where thirst is a factor (i.e. Day-Z)
