Hi guys,

Recently I have bought Rimworld and am desperate to play it. However, when I start the game up via Steam Link, the way I always play, I get no sound. Both the client as well as the TV are not muted and when I play the game behind the pc the sound works normally.
Since the Steam link does not necessarily use speaker levels of Windows, is there any way to check what audio driver the game is set to work on and whether this issue can be resolved?

Advise would be highly appreciated!

Do you get sound when you play other Steam games on the TV?

Found a bit of information regarding the Steam Link.

Quote..
I played around, setting different interfaces as the Default Device in windows until one of them worked. Steam Link will only capture audio from the audio interface marked as the Default Device.

Moreover, it enumerates the interfaces only when you connect to the host PC, and captures audio from whatever device is the Default Device at that time. Then, regardless of changes to the Default Device while streaming, it will continue to capture from that device until streaming is stopped.

So, in my case, I have to configure my headset as the Default Device for all sound, then connect the Steam Link to the PC for streaming, and then move Default Device back to my speakers. I disabled HDMI device control on my TV as well, so I can turn off the TV without it causing the Steam Link to turn off. So it'll just be streaming 24/7, or as long as I can hold the connection open.

Thank you for the replies, guys. Clearly you've taken the time to get to the answer here.

Sorry Milon for leaving out such valuable information. Bit stupid.
I have sound on all other games, windows sounds, iTunes.. you name it.
Only Rimworld has no sound via the Link. I restarted it quite a number of times (other bugs seem to need that from time to time), but never heard a peep on the menu screen and in game.

I have only one device enabled for sound and set as the default. I have no headsets or anything else intelligent connected to the PC.
The odd thing is that the sound is being passed through the device as I can pick it up through speakers directly at the PC on the attic, but it just is not picked up by the Link, while other games pass directly.
It is that contradiction that most likely killed the support topic at Steam forums before it even began.

Hope you can get at least a clue of what may be going on. Wife and I are definitely looking forward to playing this game on the living room sofa instead of on the freezing cold attic.

So I can say how I seem to have fixed it... but will never be able to say I fully understand...
I enabled the S/PDIF device and made it default. At first I could not hear any sound; not even Windows for example. But then I remembered the excellent piece of info stated above and reconnected the steaming.
After this I was able to hear Windows, iTunes and.... Rimworld!

Will keep monitoring the situation for its functiontionality and whether other problems might arise.

Again thank you for all your help!

I have no experience with a Steam Link myself, though from that discussion and a few others, I have come to understand that there are some weird issues with Steam Link, most of them related to audio from games.

It is definitely not a 100% fool proof system. But usually my annoyances are limited to having to go up to the attic to re-enter my password since Steam has updated and does not allow a login from my living g room TV.
Performance issues I never had, everything runs smoothly. Up to this technical hick-up that I luckily could fix.

Had a blast playing Rimworld on the couch in the warm living room and it would have been hard doing so without Steam Link. I would recommend it if somebody had a similar situation, especially if it can be bought in a sale like I did.
