Hello! I was looking around the forum to see what animals could be used to haul loads for caravans but I didn't find anything on the subject. So I decided to run an experiment, and share my own results. I spawned and force tamed all of the animals in the game, (even the weird ones that probably wouldn't work, like large cats, Thrumbos, Megaspiders, etc.) and I listed which ones would carry anything on your travels.

  • Dromedary +66.5 kg
  • Muffalo +70 kg
  • Prisoner +28 kg - +35 kg

I'll also note that the animals required NO obedience training to be beasts of burden. I did not look into food efficiency for Muffelos vs. Dromedaries, I just wanted to know what was even possible.

I was really disappointed that you couldn't use cows or elephants, any other large herbivores for travel. The rest I could see going either way one, but I seriously think cows should have beasts of burden, since they have been in real life historically. On the plus side, I did find you could use prisoners to carry a load. But if anyone has any other data to add, please bring it up!

You could have just read the wiki, see Caravan. It's all already there. I did exactly what you did - spawned all the animals. Dromedaries and muffalos being the only pack animals is actually mentioned twice.

I thought of that, but I kept hearing around the forum that the wiki was out of date and alpha 16 came out like, what, yesterday? I just assumed it hadn't been updated yet LOL. Good to know!
