Get rid of friendly fire when hunting.

Seriously, I don't care how, but this is so incredibly frustrating. Either you babysit every hunter or you're certain to get maimed colonists every time you want fresh meat. Extra rageinducing when you play on ironman.

Lightzy

Agreed.

But how you're going to do this, I'm quite unsure.

And hunters hunt alone, only to be downed by a pissed-off gazelle.
And hunters hunt at ridiculous range, taking forever to actually hit their target.

The best way to hunt is to form up a murder squad and manually shoot your way across the map until everyone has a carcass to haul back with them.

Compared to 4 or 5 alphas ago it is gone. If you think it is frustrating now, you would have been pissed at that time. Currently I do not worry about it happens so infrequently. Matter of fact don't think I've had any occurrences during A16.

I did .. lost some pets and a hauler because of a freakin' squirrel because my hunter was still wearing his minigun ..

The best way to hunt medium prey is a trigger happy shotgunner half a map away.
Big Game that actually fights back should be dealt with by a killsquad anyway.
Small Stuff only gets shot by my Grower, when I find them eating my crops.

The best way to deal with shooting inside your borders is to draft everybody, so you know what they are doing.

The best way would be to assign your hunter to a zone that excludes areas where your pawns usually roam.

Also assi ... whatever that meant ..

Or alternativly, the ai could be taught gun safety 101.
Don't shoot at a target if there is someone or something you don't want to hit is in your way, near the target, behind the target, etc.

It wouldn't even take much time to program.  Just have the pawn to a check when firing when hunting... If friendly (colonist, pet, ally) is within gun fire arc & range... don't fire. Wait 2 seconds and try again.

Basically this, micromange it, but for a lot of animals, a decent shooter with survival rifle will do the job (small animals not in a pack.. ). I can't recommend using any other gun for a hunter.

Personally I try to minimize this with only a couple people on hunting duty, and have batches of animals to be hunted on different sides of the map so hunters dont shoot eachother. Also shotguns seem to help a lot, a good shot is a kill and that hunter is out of there before he has a chance to be killed. I haven't had a hunting incident for a while with this.

For now it is an annoying micromanagement, as setting them to hunt on their own is asking for disaster. Hunting rhinos or elephants is almost impossible on auto.
What we need:
- Hunting squads
- Gun safety 101
I'm nobody from nowhere who knows nothing about anything.
But you are still wrong.

Well that is what it should be.
You would not send a single hunter against a Thrumbo or Megatherium
Go shoot a family of animals that weigh several tons and have large weapons attached to their face.
The same goes for the large predators.

I hunt mostly medium pray. From Raccoons up to muffalos. But no turtles. Those are save and many of my colonists were succesfully trained in shooting.

Pets following humans is the only time when I get friendly fire TBH I just manually hunt animals. More effective than the AI, and there are what 20 animals tops on a map?
