Gathering supplies for caravan possible bug

Why do colonists who gather supplies refuse to sleep or eat while doing so? is this intentional? feels like a bug to me... and why gathering the supplies isn't a hauling job so the other haulers can help them load stuff on like they do when they unpack the caravan? I tried to send out a caravan with 2 people full of leathers and hides and they almost died trying to pack, where's the logic behind this?

Thank you for the bug report. This is a known issue which should be fixed for A17 (although it is a design problem rather than a bug (according to Tynan)).
