So Im burnt out of creative juices atm. Kinda overwhelmed tbh and love my main base so much except for all the damn snow 3/4 months of the year. But yeah...here's a new base, which looks much more promising in terms of resources but Im unsure of how I wanna go about making best use the terrain. So much rich soil, mining, vents available.
Im building where the 2 geothermal vents are on the bottom right, theres one on the left I could build towards as well. Besides that, from the uppermost geothermal, past the mountain and 40 tiles north there is another vent. 1 Tile north of where the muffalo yakov is, is the furthest I can build south because thats the map edge, and to the east of there I cant take the whole mountain for the same reason. What do you suggest I build first, where should I make a kitchen, bedrooms etc.

Everything I have so far is temporary as far as Im concerned until I transferred resources from my other base. Everything except the beautiful power sources I plomped down of course.

Watch for where the enemy raids come from. You can mark them with the planning tool for later reference. Then you'll be able to establish where your defenses are most needed.

Here's my current base on the 12th of Spring, 5501. Maybe it'll have some ideas in it.

Thats a very attractive base anglewyrm. What are the workbenches in your bedrooms? What about the room to the left of your clinic? And the benches to the south of what looks like a lot of wooden racks? Looks like the darker bench has a gun in it

This one isn't the most practical but probably a more fun one, but maybe make the 'base' several smaller bases which specialise in production; your central base could perhaps accommodate up to 6 or 8 people, have larger storage areas, and be positioned roughly where you took that screenshot. You could then build smaller 'outposts' on the same map which can have up to 4 people each, with mini fortifications.

Something I always wanted to try but never got around to it. I wouldn't recommend it on higher difficulties though; rough at most really

lol dude that almost describes my main base to a T. https://ibb.co/hTCcfa
Making the workshop in themiddle area, and gonna try to connect them with roofs, a hallway, maybe an 'elevator.' I've yet to specialize on fortifications though. The damn snow.

For my current base I am planning on each mountain being an outpost eventually but right now my main area is gonna be the two geothermals. Should I mine the whole mountain out and replace it with walls? My first base I added wooden walls and replaced, expanded as needed/could. Seeing as how natural rock has negative beauty I should always replace it right? My biggest fear is not remembering to fight the urge of replacing the naturally odd and interesting shape of mountains with a generic square stone block set every single time in the name of space efficiency! Sure some shapes leave you with slightly less room in certain areas but aesthetics is important too ya

Thanks
  • the west end of the medical wing is prosthetics, bionics (including pet bionics) and robotics.
  • The lower left is a tailor's shop, with sewing table, tailor's loom, and mending bench.
  • The bedrooms contain a colony manager's desk, several stone cutter's tables, a smelter for making slag into steel, a crate packing bench, and a sculptor's table for decorating the place.
  • The guest quarters contains medicine cabinets that only hold drugs, so if they have the silver they can party themselves pink.

Colony manager desk? Is that from fluffys mods? And is the space for beds sufficient for guests? Or can they roll over to the pool table for joy? I think ill try to build my hallways like you have them set up. With the hallways surrounding the bedrooms. Now to just decide placement. Do I want them close to the geothermal or a far enough distance as you have them from your home...

Yep, Fluffy's Colony Manager mod. The Guest quarters are currently packed with beds because I wound up hosting two sets of visitors at once; I prefer to space them out with a tile of room between them, and will be building an addition to do so.

Geothermals...The raiders I've thus far encountered haven't decided to target a geothermal for destruction, although I did have one fall from fighting near it. In your games have you seen raiders destroy a geothermal on purpose?
