Ive just logged onto rimworld for my daily dose of sims with guns and am unable to right click to force pawns to do anything, (the right click works for everything else like opening up the architect menu its just with pawns) has anyone else seen this before?

Not sure this is the problem but make sure you actually have an order in place before you try to force a pawn to prioritize it.
Like you can't just right click on a rock wall and make a pawn mine it, use the mining tool first. Or if you try to prioritize a workbench make sure to add a bill first. Ect..

I have this behavior mainly with hauling tasks. Even if the right stockpiles exist.

Sometimes with other tasks too.
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.

Also, make sure that the pawns are on the auto-control setting, as you can't issue such orders if they are on manual setting.

I did yesterday notice that I couldn't issue orders to a couple of colonists, but they were extremely exhausted from firefighting and wanted to rest, so I assumed that there was a point where their need for sleep becomes so great that it overrides taking orders. Or maybe I just did something wrong.

I've seen this sort of thing due to a mod conflict before. If I drafted the pawn I could use the right-click, but when undrafted, nothing would show up when i right-clicked on stuff.

Sorry, I can't recall which mod(s) this involved.

I play vanilla and sometime i notice that there is no way to issue a manual order especially after i load a game for the few first seconds, the problem persist if i don't let the game play, so to me it looks related to in game thiks. often for me is a manual order to clean a normally cleanable spot (in home, in allowed area etc).
Somehow relatet it happens to me that issuing a manual order to melee attack given to a drafted colonist results impossible because the menu shows the choice only for a fraction of second. In this case i have to give the order while the game is paused, because the choice lasts as it should while game is paused.
And as always.. sorry for my bad english
