Below you will find a escape pod character I found (a16)

His childhood backstory directly prevents him from being a doctor (Boy Soldier) however his adulthood backstory contradicts this (Marble Doctor) and then gets blessed with the "Incapable of Caring" trait in the end he's unable to do doctoring due to his childhood backstory and his caring trait.

My question is should the pre-generated backstory procedure take into account previously assigned backstories so this wouldn't happen? Or are we just going to chalk it up to "create your own story" and decide that Yes he was a boy soldier however being stranded on a bomb blasted world his only way of survival was to become a doctor and suck it up since it directly goes against everything he believes in until he had a chance to escape and go back to his old ways?

I prefer the second one, it's not like this kind of thing could't happen in rl.

Probably a bug/error in the definition of the Marble Doctor backstory.  Backstories have a field called <requiredWorkTags> which specifies work prerequisites to a backstory, and my guess is that particular story didn't declare a requirement for Caring.

The data structure doesn't enforce relationships between work prerequisites and work forbidden. Such an arrangement would automatically prevent this type of error but also impose on artistic flexibility.

So the setup we have is more artistic freedom but also more responsibility to maintain logical relationships.

I've got a character that has a background that make him incapable of social, yet he has about a 5 skill with a double-flame passion in social. I don't recall off the top of my head what the background combo is. But it's kinda frustrating having all that potential and no way to use it.
