Yeap.

I never torched my base because of bugs .. maybe by accident, but not on purpose.
I don't have controlled areas where they spawn.

I deal with Bugs the same way I deal with Invaders.
Colonists with Guns.

Admittedly I neither play Permadeath nor Vanilla .. but still .. the only Cheese allowed in my Base is engraved on Walls.

One room that includes your food resources? It's not worth it in a lot of cases.  Then again you probably don't put a freezer where they're likely to spawn. The fact that you know is a flaw IMO. I've read so many posts about disabling infestations.  You might be surprised how many people mine out an area to control the spawn point.  It's suggested in just about every thread when questioning how to deal with infestations. I have no doubt that the amount of people cheesing infestations outnumber the others.

I may be at fault how I play.  I don't want to stick turrets inside my base.  Seems off.  I try to avoid deaths as much as possible, and I like to experiment with different base designs. Sometimes I don't want corridors mmHm  ::)

Infestations are manageable with corridors or large rooms.  Throw corridors out of the equation then difficulty ramps up significantly. Maybe not so bad if you prepared traps. I admit I don't take that step.  If they happen to spawn inside a small room, near other small rooms? No, you can't just pop in and torch.  You have to wait or lure them out  in open areas if you're in such situations... Unless you don't mind losing that pawn.  Ways to effectively deal with them break immersion for me. I guess I should shutup about it cause it might just be a personal issue.

Go on .. I recognize your style of playing :)

I'm gonna test this out. Wanted to share since it's relevant to recent posts.

It seems to me infestations are never a problem if you build your base outside... next to an outcropping is fine, just don't dig in.  And if you go mining, make sure you only mine rock outside your base perimeter.

Infestations that turn up inside an old mine are not too difficult to get rid of.  Send a pawn to bait them, run home, then shoot 'em up like any raid.
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

I think I've discovered how to deal with small/med infestations without burning/freezing: use (up to half a dozen) pawns with miniguns!

Create your 1-tile wide corridor to the potential infestation area with a 3x3 block just before the door:

                ...|......
...................+......
                ...|......

Pawns will stand in the 3x3 block shooting at anything & won't hit each other 'cause they're all next to each other. Miniguns take down spiders etc in pretty much 1 burst per enemy, & the forced miss doesn't apply until you're down to 1 or 2 targets as the enemies are all trying to get within melee range

OK the guy standing in the doorway may get cut up a bit (stick him in power armour or something), but most of the rest should be pretty safe..
