Nameless

You should be ashamed that you ever pirated the game.

Mod works. There is an entire forum section dedicated to it.

You should be ashamed.

yes, your savegames, your harddrive and your identity
then you will be exported to china to do slave work in a WoW Gold Farm.

Nope .. nothing will happen, the game is DRM free ( except for those poor steam suckers )

Because of this the pro tip :
get the drm free version from ludeon .. more money for the studio and you still get a steam key.
and added bonus .. you don't have to play on steam.
Replace your free demo version with it and continue as if nothing happened.

Careful as people on these boards seem to think video game piracy should be punished by death and is an irredeemable crime for which you shall burn in hell till eternity.

I think some sorts of software piracy are ..

what he is doing is in my oppinion the biggest praise a game can get.
He allready has the game, but likes it so much he feels compelled to spent money on it.

As compared to : I can't believe I spent 60 Bucks on that pile of crap.

Which still doesn't make the actuall act of piracy okay.

Buying the game pretty much negates any "harm" done by piracy on the consumer level, in my opinion.

If you're that worried about losing your save(s), OP, simply back them up 1st.  I had a similar situation, in a way; I played on a friend's PC when I babysat for him, so I only had access to the game at given times.  Luckily, a user here (belgord) took pity on my broke ass and bought me a copy, so I ended up having to port over my (A15) saves; it works fine, even though the PC where I played had the Ludeon DDL version and I have the Steam version =) .
Thanks, belgord!

Your saves will be fine, as long as you were playing the most updated version that is.

Piracy probably isn't something you want to go on about too much, as some people seem to flip their shit over the mere concept. Hell, I pirated the game in A7 and I've bought two copies since then and help test unstable builds. As long as you end up buying the game, I don't see the issue.

My saves will work 100% buying it on steam? They are called Alpha.17b.v0.17.1557

There used to be a thing called "shareware" which took advantage of this mindset... "let me try it out first... hey, this game is great, I wanna buy the full version!"  Let the pirates do your advertising for you :)
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

They will.

However, as others have mentioned, if you buy the game directly from this site you get both the DRM free version and a Steam version of the game. Plus the dev gets a bigger share. It's basically win-win for both you and Ludeon at that point.

yes but then you have cheated Tynan twice.

Buy DRM-Free ! Ludeon does not have to share the money with Steam and you still get both versions !
Let's cheat Steam. They have deeper pockets.

So you see, my brother bought and installed Rimworld in his computer which now belongs to me. Should I pay my brother for this game? Am I a pirate?

If he is playing it on another computer, and you are still playing it on the computer you bought from him, then yes you are a pirate.
