Hello, again. I still have the problem that the loading time of the game is longer than the averange (I was told a few seconds), but it improved.

It now takes exaclty
1 minute and 7 seconds to start up the game,
10 Seconds to enter the mod menu and
1 minute and 7 seconds to leave the mod menu.
1 minute and 7 seconds for changing the language

I think it is remarkable to see than getting to the main menu take 1 minute and 7 seconds. maybe there lies the problem. I have yet to try it with a lot of mods.

Begining a game, Options, Credits and leaving a game to the main menu: all happens instandly. only leaving the mod menu and starting up the game (from the OS) takes now a relativ long time. (the 10 seconds to enter it, I can live with.)

I hope that we can fix it (at least to the release of the game ^^). And if I can do anything to help to hunt this down any further I would ble glad to help.

thanks for your attention.

I had the same problem but I deleted Hamachi about 2 minutes ago and now it works normally again.
Try uninstalling any VPN programs.
Probs to Kioshi.

I am very interested to learn if uninstalling some VPN program fixes this.

so, I have tried it out. I removed my VPN software and tested it I also restard my PC and tested it again.
It still takes 1 minute and 7 seconds. also activating "running in background" does not change anything.
So for me deinstalling VPN software changed nothing.

if you have any other Idea what might work, I would like to try it.

The only thing I can offer right now is to ask your help in tracing the problem so I can fix it.

Start the game.
Go to options.
Turn on development mode.
Turn on deep profiling.
Open and close the mod menu (should take a long time).
Quit the game.
Go to your RimWorld folder, in the Data subfolder.
Zip up output_log.txt
Post it here.

Okay, looks like every asset file you're loading from mods is taking almost exactly 3117ms. Every text file, every PNG and WAV.

I think this must be related to an issue in Unity with the WWW class....

now i know exactly what wrong. No not realy. i don't used any mod for that test, only core. can i do anything to fix it for me?

Tynan

Is there any reason why file accesses to your files would take a long time?
Tynan Sylvester - @TynanSylvester - Tynan's Blog

I don't see any, I play this game on my SSD but also tried out regular Hard discs (with no change)
my PC is good enough fo all the modern games. but maybe that is not even related to the problem.
I have Administrator access on my PC and also tried to run the game in administrator mode.
my task manager tells me the game use up 25% of my CPU power when starting up or entering/leaving mod menu etc. I have 4 CPUs and it should have access to all 4 not just one. (i am guessing it is using 100% of one)
it also makes it impossible for me to click anything when I minimes it with control + alt + del. when I max it back, it will show a blackscreen until the Main menu is loaded.

if any other information can help you I will gladly offer than. but like I said i am not an expert (but not incompetent either)

Tynan

It's not your fault; it's mine (and/or Unity's). I'm just trying to trace this bug because a cause has still not been found which makes fixing it nearly impossible.

Are you on a LAN of any kind? Have external drives plugged in?

I have an USB external hard drive and I am connected via lan cable. no wireless hard or software on this mashine. I am in an intranet with the other computers in the lan. at the moment it is exactly one other mashine online in the network.

Alpha 8 Update
Just curious if there has been any progress on this rare issue. I've had this issue in my game since Alpha 4 (I think) and it's still present in current Alpha 8. I see that it's still an open bug ticket and I'm really hoping this can get resolved.

I've been doing some testing with this. I've disabled all non-essential background programs (ie. STEAM, Skype, ect.), I don't have anything like Hamachi installed, I'm using a normal hard-drive but I have a secondary hard drive hooked up (internally), I do sometimes use external USB drives but not this moment, I have a wireless mouse that uses an unwired USB, all CDs were removed from the drive, and no other programs running in the background. I tried moving my game's location from "C:/Games/" to just "C:/" with no change in load times. I did verbose logging with debug mode with no results that I could see (see attachments). After trying all of this I even attempted to remove any Rimworld references from my registry to see if that was somehow effecting it, no change from that. Lastly, I attempted to just copy the mod files into the "core" folder and was surprised to see that the game still took forever to load.

I've been testing these with Cybernetic Storm, More Hair, and Mini Dispenser mods (separately).

Oddly enough my main desktop gaming computer has this issue while my laptop (which isn't nearly as powerful) loads them perfectly fine (within seconds).

Anyways, anything I can do to help with this let me know. It sucks not being able to play the game with simple mods :P

Thanks again.

Note: Mods config data is -1 because I deleted the file so I could load the game. Without that the game would attempt to load with the mods and I'd lose 10-15 minutes. The game does not load any faster with that file active from startup.
