Youth serum

Quest reward

Knocks X years off a pawn's age

It would be far more lore-friendly to make some sort of super-glitterworld treatment that removed, or had a chance to remove pervasive, permanent health conditions, like bad back, frail, or dementia.

I can see the reasoning behind this, with the introduction of the resurrector, but youth serum is just delving further into the realm of "its magic!!!"

Lightzy

Definitely Youth Serum!
+1, sweet idea.

(not 'special glitterworld blah blah'. YOUTH SERUM. You can hardly charge more emotion into two words)

Not sure how it'd ever be possible to actually make someone biologically younger because that'd prolly require reverting back to a younger brain, or you leave your brain aging which isn't so good probably. And of course I'm not sure if the body retains some kind of 'body image' of itself from every moment in life, so.. Hm interesting tho.

How WOULD a youth serum work?

mistomaxo

well, if there's resurrection potions now, this is definitely on the table.

i say it should undo the most recent birthday-given negative health condition that happened

Rejuvenation therapies are not considered science fiction by the vast mayority of experts. Most of them argue if it will be possible during this century or not, but its nothing that can be simply dismissed. It makes a lot more sense to include that instead of the resurrector.

I imagine nanomachines could potentially fix things like errors in DNA and RNA (causes for aging as well as cancer), as well as wear and tear on individual cells.

It might be far into the future, but a sophisticated nanomachine that could identify and modify nucleic acids , as well as repair damaged cells, could do this.

Mechanites actually already do this, lorewise. Luciferium heals non-permanent injuries. Resurector serum I assume brings people back from complete death.

More sophisticated nano-machines / mechanites curing and preventing permanent health conditions, and boosting the immune system (effectively undoing the aging process in this game) isn't much more unrealistic or any less lore friendly than what we have.

The only question is whether that would make for balanced gameplay, IMO. I'm not necessarily against it, but then again, I'm not sure circumventing the aging system makes the game much more interesting. Bionics and luciferium can compensate for some of that stuff already.
Should I feel bad that nearly half my posts are in the off topic section?

Of course so much of this futuristic stuff would make the late game into a boring utopia, but we could add mood buffs or debuffs to all the people around the youth serum user.

User's friends / partner: +5 For being happy that their old friend/lover will stay with them longer
User's neutral pawns/rivals: -15 "Hey fuck off, I also want to live longer! Who gave him authority to keep that thing to himself? We wont find another one in years!"

Also a massive -30 for anyone older than the user.
Perhaps a big -20 for all the colony if the user is younger than 40, because he doesnt really need it.

Maybe set the item to give a drastic wealth increase to make raids more deadly.

And finally, to make things more interesting Tynan could base it on SENS research (www.sens.org). As they say aging is divided into 7 types of damage, there could be seven types of serums and once you use one of them, that one will be rendered useless until the pawn ages twice the rejuvenated years again.

That way i believe we could include this without having to worry about rimworld being an easy utopic crap in late game.

Definitely agree. Something like "Hey, he wasted something so rare when he didn't even really needed it. We should've kept it for later!"
You know, if I ever get shipwrecked I really hope I am the only survivor that plays Rimworld.

Yes. Maybe it could also act like the regeneration serum, but it only targeted specific health conditions related to age, like hearing loss or frailty?

freemapa

Yes. Youth serum. Why not?

I'm of the opinion that, given unlimited time and resources, there should be a way to do pretty much anything in RimWorld.

I want to be able to make a Leeloo... where I start with just the hand of a corpse and rebuild it into a "perfect" colonist.
