So my friend had Ramirez die even after he went to a recent save to attempt to resuscitate him and everything he tried failed.

I thought it would be interesting if no matter how early you went back in a game to try and save a person, they would be dead in that same exact place.

Probably not feasible but that would be a neat option for the more hardcore player to be able to checkmark.

yes

what

Anyway, could have explained what this would add to gameplay: It would be a bit of a twist on permadeath, sure you can go back to a save but once a characters dead they aren't coming back.

That would require the game to predetermine their death from the outset. I doubt people are going to enjoy knowing that at some point, they are going to have absolutely no control over what happens to their colonists. What's the point of playing the game if the outcome is already decided?

bluntfeather

Oh it would require that? I was thinking of some mechanic that would change previous save game data after the "natural" cause of death, which is why I said it didn't seem like a feasible idea as I can't think of a game that has done something like this yet.

Damien Hart

Yeah I don't know about save editing either. If you were going for a hardcore, ironman type game, then why would you be going back to old saves anyway?

bluntfeather

I thought it would give it a "lite hardcore" type of gameplay where yes you're colonists are gone when they go but you can still fix a screw up that didn't involve death i.e. install a turret somewhere it should have been earlier.

Damien Hart

Yeah I guess that makes sense. Couldn't say I've ever heard of a game that modifies old saves though. Sounds like it would take a fair bit of work, and there wouldn't be a huge gain from it.

or just auto-save whenever someone dies.. (option)
