Breeding colonists

Would be good if colonists could breed with each other. have baby and child colonists?

I believe this has been brought up before, possibly under "reproduction", but I agree something like this would be very cool. Possibly with research to speed up reproduction (with risks).

Dieform

Given the time scale of the game (usually under 4 years) I don't see that working with natural circumstances. Maybe some weird genetic clone technology though?

I don't think it is a good idea for several reasons, at least at the moment:
- would require a new system for romantic relationships- I think there are other areas where Tynan's time is better spent
- the game is brutal, as is - I am not sure it would be good marketing to have a game where children are mutilated, killed, abducted
- what would it really add, gameplay wise?

You have really though this out... Nice job.

Still, I think the cost-benefit ratio here doesn't look good. The complexity of introducing children can be seen on your chart. I estimate it would take a similar amount of time to program all this in as the stuff system has. Not sure I would be happy knowing Tynan has spent a month working on something that only provides some additional role playing. (Otherwise, it would be nothing more than an alternative recruitment strategy.)

There are hundreds of other improvements I would like to see more than children in the game.

I dunno, keeping colonists happy would be easier if two of them were getting positive "bumps" from one another regularly, also if they could share a bed happily.

i think it makes breeding cannibals easier if mama and papa colonists are both cannibals..  ;D

passing on the traits of the parents is always a plus. vat and neurotrainers can then bring these new colonist up to speed in a few months, rather than years..

relationships also adds more drama, rather than watching some random stranger get mutilated by a centipede, imagine it's one of your colonist's daughter or brother or wife or whatever..

people will get more emotionally invested to each colonist.. and every death becomes a tragedy, rather than just a loss of human resource for labor..
