One sort of "abandoned structures" that make a LOT of sense for rimworld - mines. Should be fairly easy to implement, just have a few linear tunnels intersect each other. Higher chance of rock chunks - representing cave ins - and some small rooms here or there. Doesn't even HAVE to have an entrance, since that could have collapsed since the mine was built. Walls should be natural rock, perhaps with some wooden or steel pillars here and there where miners propped up the roof.

Add random skeletons, (non-food) supplies or items here or there.

I like this idea. Adds up great to the RimWorld Lore and the abandoned buildings already in worlds :)

From the Changelog, A9: Cryptosleep shrines only generate underground. So at least there's that.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

But wouldnt they be useless since theyre abandoned so it means their ore is depleted?Smaller chance is someone attacked them.

Just because they exited the map doesn't mean that the previous occupants didn't leave behind useful materials, like standing lamps, power conduits, wooden walls (bracing), creepers (wait, wrong game), that they didn't have time or interest to recover.  There may also be single tiles of whatever ore was being mined before, or loose stacks of materials (steel or wood from damaged constructions, rock chunks from collapses).  You could also have a geothermal tied to a couple of (initially) hostile turrets or something similar.

having a few ones with ores in them, and perhaps a chance of there being dead (or rotten, skeletons) previous colonists
would definitly give it a sense of story.
Well - provided there's only a "chance" of it being there, if it's there 100% in every map then it quite frankly looses the coolness factor ^^

Natural caves, OTOH, should be more common. If mining speed should ever be fixed (IMHO it should be slower), natural caves could provide a nice starting shelter and/or a start point for dwarfers. Could come complete with a bear.

I like abandoned mines, they fall into the "abandoned buildings" concept. I personally would like to see an abandoned lab full with bionics and a building which prompts: "don't dead, open inside" (or something) and asks if you want to open the padlocked door. Fun follows swift.
