Hey, I have a questation. I love it to build bases in the mountains, but sometimes i am not sure if it is maybe better to have a house. One Point I don't know: Is it in the moutnaints better to heat or in a house?

I hope I will hear from you
bye

You can heat both a house on its own and in a mountain just the same but the thicker the walls the less heat they lose so if you dig into a mountain you should lose less heat through the walls unless you build your walls two tiles thick.

Keychan

Mountains will leak heat less than houses.  Houses have thinner walls so heat actually leaves the houses while mountain bases will usually not have that issue.  Also, because mountains are made from stone material, it will be easier to keep heat in than a house that will most likely be made out of wood.

Regret

I tend to have more problems with mountain bases losing heat than with double walled outside bases.

Grimandevil

there is a Mountain Temp mod for keeping temperature in mountain bases more narrow.

If you have a big enough mountain range and are willing to take the time to mine it out, mountain homes are vastly superior to exterior homes for the following reasons

1) Generally fire proof stone versus flammable wood

2) Superior siege protection. The thick mountain will make your structures immune to mortars while exterior buildings can have mortars punch through the roofs.

3) Superior defense to sappers compared to exterior buildings and walls, depending on layout.

4) Bonus mining! You will sometimes stumble onto valuable metal and material deposits which is always a bonus.

5) Better heat control for the above reasons.

6) DEFENSE! Unless you build a bunch of redundant passageways it is easy to control the flow of invaders through your base and build natural bottlenecks and kill zones along the way.

The downsides of mountains versus regular homes...

1) Lighting is more important because the deeper you go the less natural sunlight people get so can be expensive on the power for large mountain bases

2) Slower to build. You can make a wood room super fast compared to mining out a room. Especially if you hit steel or plasteel deposits

3) Uglier. Until you clean out the rubble, smooth the walls and put down real floor instead of dirt the interior of mountains gets VERY ugly so can be a mood penalty.

4) Slower passage. Unless you have a perfect layout, it is usually easier for pathing through exterior structures then for interior structures, especially for deep deep bases as there is typically only one way to get from A to B unless you build a lot of redundant passageways.

5) Difficult to plan. You never know when you're going to run out of mountain or hit a thermal vent or hidden fun stuffthat turns your plans upside down.

In conclusion, if you have a big mountain it is almost always worth it to dig in and dig in deep unless you want a quicker game or a harder game.

I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself
