I made a mod to make use of the artistic skill.
Then I split it into two mods Arts and Crafts , because
Crafts is pretty evil :)

Each mod adds a new bench, and several new piece of art
Arts adds the Art bench where you can :
-make paint from berries and agave
-Sculpt several statues
-paint pictures

Crafts adds the DeHumanifier where you can:
-mutilate human corpses
-make lovely art from the remains.....

all art is 2x2, you first craft it at the benches, then from the furniture
menu you tell your builders where you want the art placed permanantly

Instructions  :
-download the zip
-extract it to the rimworlds mods folder :)

do these add happy thoughts or fear thoughts (Depending on the type) when colonists see them?

Yes , in Arts the friendly paintings and statues have a nice beauty rating and the corpse painting and monster statue are hideous.

in Crafts  its all horrifying haha

I used Paint.net for the textures :) haha ! I'm not that artistic really .

I suggest you use buy Photoshop or you can download Gimp for free,
I use Photoshop Elements 4 and SAI.

Paint.net is fine. It's essentially Photoshop except you don't need to shell out several hundred dollars or break the law to get it. The only advantage Photoshop has over Paint.net is tablet support and that hardly relevant to Rimworld art.

Gimp is just terrible.

As somebody who's been doing pixel art in GIMP I'll have to try paint.net... Thanks for the suggestion!

I second this, GIMP was a great start for me.
You learn many of the basic abilities Photoshop has to offer

RazorHed

I could do it in paint.net , MS Paint, or  the best photoshop version around and my level of artistic ability would still be the same .  I can only draw dragons . :)
