After reading several post from new players who fail to install RimWorld properly I decided to make a step-by-step guide on how to install the game. This guide is for Windows only as I never used a Mac, but if someone could write a guide I will include them in this post.

1.: Donwload the game. If you have trouble downloading it you should start at this thread.
2.: Create a new folder where you would like to install RimWorld, preferably outside your download folder, for example C:/Programs/RimWorld
3.: You will get a compressed file which you need to uncompress/extract with a program of your choice like WinRAR, WinZIP or 7zip. I will make an exapmle with WinRAR because it's the program I use.
4.: With WinRAR, select "Extract to.." and then choose your RimWorld folder. Note that WinRAR needs administrator rights do extract directly to that folder. Alternatively, extract in your download folder and that copy-paste in your RimWorld folder. The exact methods of extracting may differ with other programms.
5.: Right-click on "RimWorld581Win.exe" and select "send to..."->"desktop" to create a desktop shortcut. The number in the name depends on the game version and ".exe" might not be displayed depending on your system settings. You don't need to run an installer.
6.: Double-click the symbol and enjoy RimWorld.

I hope that every player having trouble installing the game can find his problem solved here. If it's still not working for you, please state at which step you're having problems and what are these problems so I can help you and eventually change the guide if needed.

First of all, we should not start by threatening people, but it's good to point to a certain thread.
Second, I usually don't spell "program" with two M's.
Third, if we say "a program of your choice like WinRar, WinZip, or 7Zip", let's then not say "With WinRar..."
Finally, the Build number would be different with every version, so why don't we use "RimWorld###Win.exe where ### is the build number of the current build."
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

First of all, I don't know where I threatened anyone.
Second, sorry, thats a mistake I do frequently because in german our word "Programme" is spelled with to M's.
Third, this is a guide as detailed as possible so even people who never unzipped a programm can work with it, so I decided to make an example with the program I use, I will clarify this in the OP.
Finally, "The number in the name depends on the game version" is the next sentence and should clarify this.

Yeah, I suppose it would, but some idiots (such as myself) tend to skip reading things. All our own fault, of course.

Hehe, I always wondered where's the difference between thread and threat but never realised that they're spelled differently ^^

I will keep the version number up-to-date to make it even simpler.

Having problems with WinRAR, files breaks sadly and I cant find a specific file to place, it is a file instead of a game program.

Dr. Z

Don't exactly know where your problem is, you are downlaoding a bunch of compressed folders and datas. Then you are creating a new folder on your hard drive and extract the files to the new folder. You don't need to run an installer, just double click on the .exe

If this doesn't help you, please make a more precise summary of what you are doing before the "files break" and what happens to them exactly.
