Hello everyone, first time poster here, with a tale of my own. As one might expect, I was playing Rimworld, minding my own business, when a escape pod came down! Upon checking out the new arrival, I noticed something...unusual about their age.

This colonist of mine is extremely old, in one way at least. Who knows what things she's seen during her brief periods awake...
Her foot injury she had after crash landing, though, became badly infected, so I had to remove it...but thankfully, I have Cybernetic Storm installed, and now she's better then ever with a replacement leg. She might not be able to fight, but she's helped recruit a few others to join the colony since with shocking ease. I suppose being nearly 1,800 years old gives insight even if you weren't even awake for one percent of that time.

BetaSpectre

I've got a colonist that's 3892 years old. 24~ Actual.

TBH this seems to be the norm as if space travel is slow. I like it for its flair though, but imagine all that time that's gone by. You could have lived a normal life on your own planet. But took to the stars~

Yeash, that's one old colonist. It does give a interesting sense of immersion, though, that these people decided to give everything they knew up, to explore a unknown world with almost no chance of return. And that is why this game is amazing, the things that can come up at random like this.

The game takes place in 5500 AD. 5500-3892 = 1608. I doubt there were cryocapsules at the time, so something is wrong here :)
Anyway, I've seen a topic around here with a screenshot of a dude who was born like in 2030, and it's cool to think that IRL in a few dosen years we'll start to encounter people who'll perhaps end up on a rimworld in a few thousand years :D Who knows.

BetaSpectre

You can be Cryo'd Right now IRL. The problem is in the defrosting methods. We haven't cracked a way to defrost a person without the water in their body exploding the cells from the inside out.

But lol 1608 - Must be from the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Or Atlantis xD;Was one of my starting rolls. I do have like 40 mods so mods could have came into play.

Maybe the person was resurrected by necromancy after having frozen to death in Siberia.

Have you guys looked at "Lily C.A.T." (anime)
There's a line in it where a worker is talking about his pet dogs back home. :3

This mechanic makes me think of Ender's Game. More accurately, it makes me think of the saga at large, wherein Ender lives thousands of years, jumping from era to era, crisis to crisis. By the end he seems to be less an individual and more the embodiment of an idea.
My ancient colonists always get me thinking about what they might have been before. How did they get to this planet, so far removed from their origins?

Also, who's to say that Humanity originated on Earth in the timeline of the game?

At least on Rimworld's part, Humanity does originate from Earth, and left it at some point. I don't think Tynan has specified when, though.

I see no problem...maybe the Earth we know today is not the Earth of the storyline and in fact we nuked ourselves so bad we forgot we were space travelers with thousands of millions of colonies....

I'd argue with this. Rimworld's backstory says: "The game takes place at a time about 3,500 years in our future". Also, Einstein is mentioned in the "Longsleep Revival Briefing", and what chances are there is a different Einstein on a different Earth?
I think these facts do allow to say that RW's reality is our reality, and a person born in 1608 is rather a bug.

Or was frozen in ice or some other method and now in the futaer they figured out how to wake her

Are you sure that it's 5500 AD?

Because in-game if I remember it simply says 5500...and if humanity changse its dating system from a western, Christian, reckoning to something where Year 0 is, say, Humanity founding its first extrasolar colony...it's entirely possible for a person to be born in 1608/3892BP...it's just now OUR 1608.

What if it's years after the battle of Yavin? That's how they measure time in Star Wars...
