I sure theres already a post for this but o well. I love RimWorld and i've played it since alpha 5,6. I would like to add mods to the game but don't know what mods would be the best to start off with.

Crashy

Well in that case welcome to community. And for mods to start out with I don't know I am still a novcie modder with a big mod.
Nothing but a beginner modder. :D I hope I get to know you all well.

Adamiks

Start with modifying mods.

Shinzy

You mean with what mods to play the game with?
the above posters really confuse me :-[

I can only suggest to gaze through the release section and pick ones you like
or be more specific what kinda content you'd like to have in your game!
(cause if it's more clothes then I know juuuust the mod or factions? I know one for that, too! or both in one? Rooki has one for that.. um. BUT I'm here to advertise myself!)

Celanis

I would say, start with getting a "simple" idea, like, adding a piece of clothing.

Find a mod which does something similar, and try to copy that mod and modify it, or dissect that mod until you got something working :-) (Eg: find out what makes the mod "work" and clone that behavior to accomplish your goals)

How you can't understand "Start with modifying mods."? ;D

For example fresh modder with download X mod(s) after playing he think "this recipe is stupid like hell! Why 5 potatoes, why!?". In this point you need to change something by yourself, how? Just using brain. Get to the core/mod files and go see what you can see. This can't be more simple ;D

no no but the OP as I understand wants to add mods, not make them. Yet all the replies after that been all about making a mod =P
so naturally I was confused about if I got OP's intention right or not

if you really wanan see what they can do I'd advice you to plop in one of the big modpacks
(they may or may not overwhelm you right off the bat but.. still!) ;D

Welcome to the community. We hope you get a long and limb-from-body-tearing stay

I'd recommend these mods:
More vanilla turrets
EdB Interface
Expanded prosthetics and organ engineering
Hospitality
Pawn state icons

If you want more explanation about them you can look them up or just ask me (i dont know why you would want any advice from me though...)

I love EDB Prepare carefully.. helps me get the perfect (CoughUberColonistsCough) start.
It lets me get to ease back into the game, instead of struggling with starting colonist issues).
The new additions to the colony after a few days will be good enough for the full experience :D

ps @Shinzy, I thought the same thing too!
Helped me figure out quite a bit, but I still don't know if I can make my own mod.

For eg, I have to still check how the .dll is generated, what it involves, which language it's coded in.
I'm in no hurry, will learn the language in a year or two, by the time the game is released :D.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. StorymasterQ

you can start modding right away basic modding depend on xml editing when you know whot and how you will hit some wall that canot be breaken with xml you strat diging in c# (this is dll lang game use ) source code to solve problem a soon as you find out you will be making stuff with easy all depend on expirence so just do it . :)
