I buy medical kits and they just sit there...  In the present build do they serve any purpose and if so how do you use them?

Btw..  Great game!  A little to hard...

If I remember correctly set your colonist to doctor, and they will use them.  ;) That's it, not used yet..It's been a week since I played  :-[ I could have sworn I saw the medkits numbers go down when I tried..may have been to late needed sleep. ???

Note that this page is a lie. Medkits cannot, in fact, be traded for a profit: No-one will sell them to you at a price less than that another trader will buy them from you. Shells and missiles are also a lie. Uranium can be traded for a $5 profit-per-unit, if you buy from industrial traders and sell it to farming ships. With everything else, you're either breaking even or taking a loss, except for buying food from a farming ship and selling it to a slaver or arms merchant.

You forgot about Metal from Industrial traders to Farming vessels, its good source of money early on Randy so player can spare some food and still have many slaves and few better rifles more.

I didn't forget about it.

But RimWorld players and metal are like Dwarves and gold beneath the mountain. They'll quite happily sit on a pile of the stuff and starve rather than let any of it escape their grasp.

Selling metal is a desperation move, nothing more. Not something you do for profit. You can't manufacture with money, after all.

but you could buy more metal with it

Or you could sell potatoes, buy the more metal, and have both the metal you had and the new metal!

I haven't played it a lot but what i've seen tradingwise is that you can sell your metal when you get a farmship, it usually pays top dollar for that stuff, and just buy a buttload of food and sell that to the other ships (slave/weapon/industrial) and trade it for what you need. Weapons/metal etc. Just ensure a surplus of food en use it as a currency for metal/weapons/people.

(But to be fair, i played the relaxed game just to get a hang of it so it may be different in the normal/hard games?)

This game gives you infinite potatoes with just a small investment (9x9 room with hydroponics). Metal is much more precious.

Metal is only as precious as your need for it ^^'

Seriously guys, what's with this pressure party? You have metal stocked, you got no money? You sell it and buy yourself a slave to get more metal. Or more potatoes that you can then transform into metal. Or actually survive, so that you can use the metal later. What's the big deal here? I feel like some of you think selling metal is a blasphemy.

thebadman

Metal is good to be sold early for 10$ or 8$(If needed to buy slaves/weapons).

Later player just spam hydroponics tables and have infinite source of easy cash... Some people say hydroponics is OP but id say the problem is with food price - its too high for something you can infinitely harvest either from potato or Agave/Raspberry plants.

Let's see. Perhaps the fact that unlike other resources, metal is a finite one. Once you've mined out literally every square on the map, your only source of that metal is industrial traders and arms dealers. Meanwhile, your outlay is constant - if you're not constantly outlaying to explode your raiders, you'll be paying to replace the turrets they blew up, and if you're not replacing the turrets they blew up, you're at least replacing the walls they shot down/burnt down/blew up. This is in addition to random fuckery which causes you massive material loss, such as the walls randomly blowing up and setting shitsloads of stuff on fire.

That's why metal is precious. You have a constant need for it when you're expanding and building, and to repair the shit that gets blown to hell.

Exactly what I've said. Metal is only as precious as your need for it. In a scenario, with a good bunker you can pretty much shut down raids without need for mines or turrets and that limits it's use to rather cheap repair jobs. At some point traders actually provide much more metal than you could use AND you still have unmined resources over the map. And this is from a guy who builds way bigger than it needs be.

My point stands. Metal is only as precious as your need for it. If your need for metal is not as big as - say - a new slave or few more guns, it ain't precious at all.

everything ever in existence is as precious as your need for it. only 3 things in the wold break this rule, gold, silver, and gems.
