Hey guys, Louis here. Just a quick suggestion (hence the thread), what would you guys think about bringing in birthdays?
Not like "Yay, it's my birthday! Let's all decorate the base and get the chef to bake me a human meat and potato cake!", I mean a buff of say +20 on their birthday, which (obviously) makes them a lot happier, and the other colonists get a +5 buff for 'Finally, something to celebrate!' or something of sorts. And, bring back the blue message that tells you that it's the colonist's birthday. I don't know why, it just seemed that teensy bit more fun when that was implemented. What do you think?
Only in RimWorld is the phrase "31 Heavily-Armed Siegers are currently bombing your base" preferable to "50 manhunting squirrels are attacking your colony"

Seconded. The Void gods demand celebration! And colonist souls
"So weird looking, like a twisted hulk of man and machine both scary and... well scary i mean it would look like a crab with limbs on limbs."

Yay i have a mod now ''https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=20513.0''; It adds mercs

It sounds great, but it would probably take a lot time per birthday to set it up.

Would birthday become its own job? So that way that hole in the wall can get patch while b-day prep happens and so that the plants dont rot in the fields?

What do you do when you get more then one bday inside the same month? Do you consolidate birthdays? Or do you do separate prep for each bday?

And since this is now going to be a joy activity, there should be personality traits associated with it. What do you with folks that dont like b-days?

Hi, Louis here
First off, MarctheMerc, my reaction to your comment was literally an uncontrollable, 3 minute-long laughing fit. Right, now that's out of the way, MrWiggles, I don't want to be a pain, but the 'Preparations' bit was aimed just as a joke, and wasn't serious. And, the colonists that don't like celebrating birthdays could have a trait (on their 'Character' tab, like 'Masochist' or 'Hard Worker' traits) that has a creative name that Tynan can come up with because I frankly can't be bothered, which warns a player like yourself or I that said colonists abhors the idea of birthdays, and gets a 5- debuff on a fellow colonists birthday, and a -20 debuff on their own. Obviously, it wouldn't be an equal chance of getting either type of colonist, because that would severely damage the colony's mental break probability. Like, a 20% or 10% chance that someone would abhor birthdays, and the rest would enjoy them. Does this clear anything up?

Just gotta say, no no no no no for the traits. Traits are limited and can be very useful or bad, and a trait that only applies once a year or several times a year for colonists birthdays only to be negative would just be a waste. And 20 is a LOT of mood changing, -20 debuff could drive one insane...

Hi, Louis here,
ZOMBIE2, come to think of it, it would be a waste of a trait, but if only negative then it would work just like bionic body parts for example. Colonists (in my experience of the game) often start with bionic love/hate traits, and bionics are proportionally a very small part of the game right now, so they are, if you think about it, just as much as a waste of space as my trait ideas, but they were implemented (presumably from threads like this one), so why wouldn't birthdays. Personally, I don't really notice any difference on my birthday or not, but that doesn't mean I don't have such trait. Humans' traits are very complex and varied, and personally I would like to see similar in Rimworld someday.
