I was wondering if anyone with a controller (such as an xbox controller) has used one while playing Rimworld. If so, does it work well with rimworld, or is a controller not meant for rimworld. Thanks!

Mr.Cross

I personally expect that an a controller would work well with rimworld, but As I have never tried I cannot tell you for sure.

99.9999% sure controllers cannot be used in rimworld right now. Considering it's mostly mouse, I guess you could in theory use a controller, but it probably wouldn't work out the best.

Even if then playing on it will be hard. Controllers are good for games like Mortal Kombat, Need For Speed etc. but not for FPS or games like Rimworld. It's because you don't control with your whole hand but only with finger.

Actually... FPS stands for first person shooter, which controllers are fine for, sometimes even preferred. Controllers can be used for lots of games, but yeah, for the type of game rimworld is, it wouldn't really be used.

Rimworld would take double the time with a controller. Also FPS's are only played with a mouse unless you are a casual scrub.

It's your own opinion really. Lot's of people play FPS's, on consoles or computers, they work well both ways.

Are you kidding right know? I had consoles and i was playing at lot of FPS, i don't have consoles now, because they're shitty for games that i like - generaly speaking also FPS. If this what you're saying would be truth a lot of FPS or another shooting games on consoles wouldn't have automatic shooting. Games like GTA vice city or Getaway 1 and 2. Great games like Black was also shitty on PS2 due to controler + FPS.

IMHO,

Although controllers are pretty fine for a lot of genres.
Keyboard + Mouse are MUCH better for FPS/Shooters than controllers. Controllers lack the precise aim and quick movement that you can make with the mouse. I once heard of a game flunk because they decided to allow both Computer and Console players to play together on matches. Didn't end well for a certain side...

I have no idea how this would work for Rimworld though. Don't think I've heard of a building game played with a controller before. Aside from minecraft and the likes.

God no minecraft was so stupid to put on a console, just honestly. The only reason it can be justified to put on the console is for money, really.

In general controlers are bad, because you control them only with one finger when mouse - with whole hand.

Guess no one here has heard of xpadder then? You can get a control to do anything. Also, as long as it works as intended, the steam control is going to get rid of the mouse/control problem.

Double plus also, as long as you spend the time setting it up right, you can use a control anywhere. I have a 360 control with about 100 macros set that I use to control my OS - haven't had to use a mouse in months. Wrote this message using a control.

How does that work?

I personly despise controllers... Don't ask me why... I don't know.

Combination of predictive text software, xpadder (which allows you to map a controller however you want - buttons/sticks can be anything from key presses/combinations to mouse movements and the activations of macros/programs), and an onscreen keyboard.

When I click (triggers are left/right mouse) on a text box and tap my 'typing mode' button (it's start ATM) a onscreen keyboard pops up and my control layout is auto switched to 'typing'. I then use my my thumb sticks to move around a curser that auto placed (macro) over the on screen keyboard, the 'mouse' sensitively is also lowered and shaping ('mouse movements', which are the thumb sticks remember, are restricted to only x or only y movements) is applied.

Basically watch the steam control release trailer - my 360 control works similar to how it's used on that. Or for typing imagine how it works on a phone.
