Are raids supposed to be this huge?

What a zerg fest...... doesn't even look fun. Think we seriously need some new enemies for the late late game. Some game ending boss type units so you wouldn't need blob central hahahaha.... man that has to be laggy as fk. Can't imagine....

Yea Hopefully when Tynan gets back he will start working towards 1.0 by fixing the late game and being more creative as that's my main complaint about the game anymore to make it feel like a release version. I would love to have to fight some giant bosses instead of a zerg, and as suggested in the other thread maybe a random generator for the bosses like DF has.

Vanilla Rimworld at it stands he has to fix nothing.
You never see raids this big in vanilla, because a much smaller raid has already ended you since defences in the base game are woefully weak.

You don't have to fight, though. Running away is a perfectly valid option, and while it means the colony will get trashed, it's still much better than the alternative of fighting to the death.

I play vanilla (with interface mod) and I had raids much bigger than that. Big raids are result of colony wealth and nothing stops you from accumulating it in vanilla, it just takes a bit longer. I had a colony in alpha 11 that was getting 300+ warg attacks, 130 mechs from psychic ships, 150+ sappers. I had to make peace with the tribals because hauling their dead took a month.

I can understand the larger raids but I think they really need to be toned down, their sizes often times causes performance issues (for example, had a one person raid today that brought my game to a crawl, had to flick developer mode on and just lay waste just so I could MOVE the camera and even then it took the game several minutes before it realized that everything was dead *thank god for them being all bunched up, at least in this instance where I could easily take em out*)

vanilla is fine. if you get big raids and manhunter packs means you are wealthy as hell...

about the slowdown, looks more like you should upgrade to a better CPU, as games like this depend on a lot of CPU to simulate so many AI going on.

i am glad there is no current limit (or the limit is very high) on raids, because what other games do, is to hardlimit a lot of stuff so they stay within the "minimun system requirements" they established when selling the game.
actually, this might become a problem if Tynan decides to go on Steam, because they will force him to establish a "minimum system requirement" and he will have to stick to that, so future features might be limited by that.

I think a good solution for the giant Raid problem could be that your wealth not only dictates the amount of pawns that get send but also the equipment they carry with them. So you would get a raid of 1 person in full power armor and a machine gun instead of 15 people with shivs and cloth clothing. (ofc we would have to find a different solution for the tribals, as they haven't really got access to expensive equipment)

Or does it work like that already? (I alway felt like it was semi random how well equipped pirate attacks are)
