Can you anywhere find how much power your colony uses?

Tagasaki

Florius

Connected rate is the amount your colony consumes?
I thought it was how much I was generating hehe

There isn't anything that shows how much you are producing only what the balance between producers and consumers is.....and then only if you have a surplus either in production or in batteries.

Only way to find out is to look at all the solar panels and geothermals, multiply and add.

Tagasaki

(all the solar panels + all the geothermals + all the turbines) - minus usage = balance in power conduit.

18 solar, 4 geothermal usually, no random events knockout power, almost nothing does besides lucky raids and i have too many turrets for them to get close.
my battery room has 24 batteries, that's actually pretty small for my battery rooms honestly.

sometimes i put up 3-4 windmills too, but i play mostly biomes where the grass regrows faster than a colonist can cut a wide designation of plants so not always on the windmills.

The "connected rate" is the balance of power generation and usage. A positive number means power going into batteries. A negative number means power being drawn from batteries to make up for a shortage

RoboticManiac

My bigger bases have at minimum 3k in sun lamps,  2-3k heaters/ coolers, about 3-4 in work benches, at minimum 1K in normal lights and another 1K in auto-doors. Security takes up anywhere from 1K to several dozen thousand.

If you click on any power plant or power line, you can get a "Connected Rate" value. If it's positive, that's how much you're generating, even after any drain the grid's experiencing. If it's negative, that's how far into the hole you are. If you want to get a read on how much power your base is using, either unplug your power plants from the grid, then look at your deficit on one of the batteries or cables still on the grid,or do some math.

As an aside,my colonies tend to use a LOT of power. Mantle drills, lights everywhere, day and night shifts, constant activity... It ain't fun when a solar flare knocks out power.

A lot. I tend to research geothermal as fast as I possibly can because that's the ONLY reliable source of energy.

Mrshilka

Using 120 thousand power in my current game, half of that to defences and the rest into heating and food growing and base running.

If you're in to mods then there's a Bio generator in the vegetable garden mod thread that you can download as an independent mod. It comes with a crafting station that allows you to turn dead raiders / colonists / critters in to BioCells (fuel) or beans (comes with the mod) and corn in to bio diesel to run the generator. It only produces 750 watts so it's not OP but it is a very stable source of power.

why not just build your solar panels in the "wind collection area" of the turbines? the solars don't block the turbines. Neither does slag or rock chunks if you make a dumping stockpile and keep it full.

grass, it grows back faster than i can cut it in the biomes i usually play.
also solar power fluctuates, it's less reliable in general, so the less i have to rely on it the better.
