Soldiers Tab| War parties| Group Drafting| Groups

Hey Rim World Community and hopefully Devs, So I've played a lot of Rim World lately and i have really been thinking about a group system, so this was what i was thinking. We could make a "Group" tab, When you click the tab the left side will be a vertical line with all you your colonists With a header saying Available Colonists, next to each colonists will be a button that says assign. When you click assign you would be prompted to make a Group, if it was me i would call it Army. So now when you click assign you will see two options; Army and Create New, When you click Army the colonist will be moved over to a new vertical line with the header Army. Repeat this until you have all the colonists you want in groups you want. For example:







ColonistsArmyMedics
Bob, SettlerPete, SubjectRandal, Commissar
Lars, InventorAndrew, chef
Red, Surjeon Nurget Commissar
Morton, Soldier

I hope my table made sense, but if not you sorta catch my drift.

Now you have a bunch of groups, the benefit of this? Well there is probably heaps (like group tasks) But thing i want this for is group drafting,if your like me and sorta panic when you get raided (Even tho you have turrets covering every side, no walls are exposed and your totally good) and pause the game and sort out who you're going to draft, like "Yeah i'll draft morgan, Pete, Lars.. Lars.. where the heck is lars, oh yep theirs lars, Red, okay you guys go over there, Now i'm ganna need to hide, Randal, andrew and nurget, i don't want them getting shot cause then they can't heal anyone" with a group system you could go into the tab and theirs your groups and at the bottom of list could be a button that says draft, then it just draft everyone in that group, then closes the group and you have all your selected colonists, move them to your front lines, then go back into the menu and then draft your medics and hide them in the Fridge (No just me?). when you click in the groups tab you'll see your groups are drafted then were the draft button was its now a undraft button click that and its back to businesses.

If you guys have probably thought of this and there may be some threads regarding this already, just though i'd share my view. Thanks for reading and if you like or dislike this idea or have something to add then please comment.

I think that this system will be really beneficial to us, but we would a way of doing medical operations on the go (i.e while fighting) to make the medics work. Maybe have it so you could draft the army to one place, but keep the medics behind.

Or, you could scrap that, and have it so your infantry have assigned medics. So, if Axle was going into battle, you would draft him and position him as normal, position your medics as normal, but if Axle gets hurt, your medic abandons his position, grabs medicine (if applicable) and goes to heal Axle. This seems to me like a good expansion.

Maybe, like a syringe sprite like on PA, the medic would heal the wounded soldier while standing, and then retreat back to his position. If any medics are in sight/range of raiders, the raiders will focus on killing them. This makes it good to have skilled, quick doctors, medicine for bulk healing, and a well-worked AI system so the medics don't stay there a second longer than they are needed.

Only in RimWorld is the phrase "31 Heavily-Armed Siegers are currently bombing your base" preferable to "50 manhunting squirrels are attacking your colony"

If you use edbs interface mod he has definable squads via a nice pawn picking screen, you can then switch between them up at the colonist toolbar along the top of the screen amd a middle click will select the whole squad. Its all rather neat.

Thanks for the feedback, i was more thinking that the groups are just names, like you could call it pony team 1 if you wanted too, and that my "Medics" were just a group of skilled doctors that i didn't want in the line of fire, this was the original idea however the idea of Field medics sounds pretty cool.
