So I put a air conditioner on my 10x10 room that covers the geotherm power generator and its still 150 degrees in there.  Even on the spot right next to the cooler.  (Yes blue inside red outside)  Will my power generator blow up for getting to hot?  Or is that something for later, in the game?  That being said if it does matter why isn't it cooling off in there?  I set it to 68.  There is a heat wave.  Enclosed and roofed.

Is there adequate space on the outside of the cooler? If the red is in a small enclosed space, it'll get so hot in there that it'll heat up the room you're trying to cool.

Only 1 cooler for a 10x10 room isn't much cooling power, plus the geothermal is actively heating the room. I'd add 1-2 more. Like grizzly said, make sure the coolers are able to vent into an open area, preferably without a roof.

That said, spontaneous combustion shouldn't happen til around 300 degrees F in an enclosed room.

why are you trying to cool an enclosed thermal generator in the first place? Just create a no roof zone, problem solved.

SO Ill take the roof off I suppose and save the energy.  I am just wondering now is 300 degrees the exploding factor or is this not a thing yet?  I basically enclose it to keep raiders away from it and then noticed its getting hot in there.

NO explosion from temperature. It will catch fire though.  The wall to protect, okay, but just remove the roof, as the cooler is a target for raiders, and a very week entry point.

If Raiders were going to land there, the drop pods punch through constructed roofs anyway. If it makes you feel any better though, you only need one tile as a no roof region for it to work.

Ok, thanks, seems that nothing fun happens to me.  I had some conduit blow up a tree and a poison ship crash and spewed snow...  In August.

I regularly enclose the geothermal plants outside my colony walls so they're protected from forest fires, and the temperature inside often exceeds 400c (far more than 300f) and ice never seen one catch fire or explode. I wouldn't even bother cooling the thing at all, let it cook and imagine the incredible heat somehow helps it... Or just do what I do and giggle a little as you think of ways to weaponise it against raiders

I believe it's around 500c or so is where they burst in to flames. I'm not near a computer to double check the code. By the sound of it, you've been getting pretty lucky.

Side note, placing a bunch of vents through the wall also works if you still don't want to remove the roof.

TheGrover

Maybe I was lucky, maybe they just aren't flammable enough.

And I've always found vents quite slow at dissipating heat, to it'll take a LOT of vents to mitigate all the heating from the generator

Loki88

4 vents usually do the trick. They don't keep it cool in there by any means, just less flammable .
