Mental Breaks Seriously?

I liked it though. It's straight to the point and infallible. I've never had a problem with colonist morale outside of raid-induced tiredness issues and that's because I do all of the above. Keep places well lit and clean and you're on to a winner. Oh, and carpets. Research and use carpets. They use a fair amount of resource and take a while to construct, but they're key in keeping your colonists happy. Flowers help too but they're pain in the arse unless you have plenty of bodies on growing duty.

I agree completely. When my people are mining they complain it's to cramped when there in a 8x8 cave. Bug or just sensitive. And there scared if the dark! What's the worst that can happen. Trip over a wire and burn down your base cause it's dark, that would be actually a funny random thing the AI storytellers could make happen
Video games, are pretty good

theres an easy peasy fix for a mental break, just build 4 ( or more, its up to you) gibblet cages and put any ( preferibley all, or 4 colonists ) in them, and allso build a few extra to stuff some raiders into,   thats about 40 fear right there if you use 4 colonists and 4 raiders ( and if your playing vanilla the dead colonists won't be hard to get)
make shure you place them in the highest traffic area you can and make shure theres at least one light nearby.
no one will suffer a mental break unless thay spend time away from the cages

I agree that this will probably work, but you should equally be able to keep your colonists happy otherwise as well.  I know that of course this is not a final product and things will most likely change quite a bit....some due to our feedback, so I am not too concerned.  Just a little annoyed with the "story teller" who seriously seem to revel in our displeasure.  LOL

The f*ing problem is that you can't get to carpets because every time these mentally delicate crack heads see a dead body they freak the f* out, give up, have mental breaks and go on rampages.  Where are the damned crazy pills?  This is like trying to manage a psych hospital with no meds.

Yes I know changes are coming and everyone has a method and story about how to game the game.  But damn, its frustrating just trying to get your basic sh*t up, let alone improve quality of life.

IMHO, it depends on expectations.

If I'm at home, trying to chill, a dead corpse is not going to help.   I don't expect to have corpses lying about my home.  I mean, it's not remotely normal ... it might even indicate psychopathic tendencies.  AFAIK, even battle-hardened soldiers don't routinely decorate their base of operations with dead corpses.

On the other hand, if I'm outside in a high-stress alien environment, exploring unknown territory, fighting off nasty raiders, I'm not going to care as much about the presence of corpses.  I would expect it to come with the territory.

So ... perhaps viewing dead bodies in the "home" zone makes colonists unhappy, but doesn't affect their happiness when viewed outside of the "home" zone?

Same thing for darkness ... I wouldn't be happy about living in a dark home ... but if I'm spelunking deep underground, it's kind of expected.

If you don't have carpets yet, you should be managing loyalty with fear.
An execution a day keeps the mental breaks away!
