Plague kills are so cheap.

Good doctors are important. That's jolly good.

That is an average death rate. In some places, the plague killed everyone, in others, the plague wasn't that bad.
You're right of course, that's the nature of averages. My point was that current disease mechanics don't allow for a plague that "isn't that bad" when ideally it would.

And quite clearly, judging by all of the people here talking about it, the *AVERAGE* mortality rate for untreated Rimworld plague is 100%, and 80% for treated.

In the real world the 15% mortality rate of treated plague is when "treatment" consists of a government care worker in India tossing a case of penicillin out the window of his Jeep as he drives by an affected village.  Actually getting a hospital bed and an IV drops it to 1%.
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

I can see how the plague is a poor representation of what the actual plague was like, but I feel like the Rimworld version is supposed to have a high mortality rate. Then again I could be wrong about this.

True, it's plausible that Rimworld Plague is Working As Designed.  But then it should be renamed to "Blood Spewing Death Ebola", not "plague".

That'd shut me up about it. I actually think the current disease mechanics are actually pretty fun and easy to understand, just too harsh for the diseases and nebulous "infections" it claims to be representing.

I like how they saw the naked guy with no food and said, "what he needs is an SMG."

I find Malaria to be wayyy more deadly. Even with penoxycyline, sterile floors, hospital beds and vitals monitors, 1 in 8 survive.
Nothing says "Home Security" like 50 turrets

We need to find cooler names for these diseases.  Instead of "Malaria", how about, "Necrotic Blood Fever", and change the mechanic so that when the patient dies his fever is so high that he spontaneously combusts and sets his corpse and the bed he is lying in on fire?

I +1 this.

Plague: Blood Spewing Death Ebola
Malaria: Necrotic Blood Fever
Gut Worms: Stomach Gnomes
Fibrous Mechanites: Slaver's Delight
Flu: Sniffles

LOL, perfect!

Maybe colonists with stomach gnomes should poop a piece of gold every day?
