heya,

yesterday was playing without any major problems (was on A17.1536) at x1 and x2 ran perfect, x3 would be quite laggy
year 5507
10 colonists
+- tamed 50 animals

today i come home. update game to A17.1539, load it (same save) and the game barely moves at x1
it seems ok when i dont move the camera, but when moving camera with WASD it's horrendous. moving with middle mouse button is a bit better, but not much.

now i have to pause the game to be able to move the camera smoothly

AFAIK there is no certainly of save compatibility between unstable builds, and even if the game appears to be fine after loading a save (from a previous version) there could be something broken in the background logging errors (and with is causing lag). So that may or may not be the cause of your lag. Are you getting the same lag with games started from new?

Either way can you please post your log file (as an attachment). And as a guideline, it is always a good idea to post your log file when reporting a bug, especially so when it comes to testing these unstable builds. As for a lot of issues there's not a lot the devs can do with a bug report without a log file or save game to work with. So please can you post either your log file or save game for this issue, or both. Thank you.

can you please tell me where the log file is?

PS: i know there might be problems between versions, but how am i suposed to test perfomance on big colonies when i am suposed to make a new one with every small update?

Calahan

For the unstable builds I think the output.log file can be found in the RimWorld/RimWorldWin_Data folder.

I'm pretty certain that Tynan doesn't expect all players to get to the point of testing late game colonies with these unstable builds, since it's fairly obvious that won't be possible for a lot of players if they can't carry colonies over. But it is known that there is no guarantee of save compatibility between builds, and that is the nature of, and consequence of playing, the unstable builds. Sometimes a save will carry over fine, sometimes not.

Although there are some players who play the game pretty much exclusively on the highest speed, and in doing so can develop to a late stage colony within a single playing session. And I'm sure Tynan will appreciate any feedback on late game performance they provide. But as I said, this is certainly not expected of everyone playing the unstable builds, and a lot of players testing the unstable version are simply starting a new colony every time a new unstable build is released. And their feedback of the early stages of the game are important and valuable as well.

zandadoum, can you attach your savegame? Calahan is totally correct in that we can break unstable savegames at will, but as far as I know, we haven't done so with the A17 releases, and any performance problems you're seeing have a good chance of being a legitimate bug.

3rd and last attempt to UL the save through forum software...

... no

here's a dropbox link

Many thanks for the save file. Much appreciated.

FYI - The size limit for attachments is 600kb, so there is no chance of getting a save file, which is several MB's, to attach without compressing it first. But save files are very compression friendly, and will often shrink enough to attach when put through a utility such as WinRAR or 7zip first. For example, attached is your save file shrunk down to 480kb from 19.7MB via 7zip Ultra PPMd compression. (although nothing wrong with just hosting the save file on Dropbox either :) but FYI-ing about compressing saves to attach them in case it proves useful at some point).

7z could get my save under 1MB (saving as .zip as i wanted to make sure every1 could open it)

Does it still happen for you? I've loaded the attached savefile and it was fine.

no, not to the extreme i explained in my OP

it does get extremely laggy when i am at x3 speed and try to use the cam with WASD which is extremely annoying, but it has been like that since i know rimworld. it just annoys me because i have a quite good PC and would not expect it from this game to lag so much.
but as said, i have played a looooong time (1500h before steam release) like this and i grew used to pressing "1" before moving the cam and after moving the cam pressing "3" again.

Okay, so I think the bug or whatever caused this is already fixed then.

The game can get slow at 3x speed but it's a general problem with performance, and not a single bug.

Thanks for reporting.
