My kitchen is clean - why is it dirty?

Hello all. I think I'm doing something wrong.

My current colonist (sole survivor, no wanderers/escape pods/calls for shelter) has a cooking of 3. Pitiful, but his food-poisoning chance is only 4.00%, so I figured with a clean kitchen, he should be able to cook properly. However, it seems like one out of every four meals is contaminated.

I checked the room stats, and somehow, the room counts as 1.07 filthy, even though I've cleaned every tile. After taking the screenshot, I even cleaned under the doors, and it still shows up as filthy. Am I missing something?

Which kind of floor is this ?

Sand or Sterile Tiles ? I can't quite see it. What I see is dirt in the doors :)
Sand and other Dirt Tiles create dirt very fast.
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.

Isn't the blood stain under your south door cause the dirty?

The kitchen room is entirely sterile tile.

Now that I reloaded, I notice that the dirtiness has gone down to -0.23, so maybe getting rid of the filth under the doors did help, and the game just hadn't updated the room stat view. But now there's that nebulous -0.23 to deal with.

The only other thing I can think of (I've individually right-clicked on all the tiles in the room, and there's nothing to clean up), is if the tiles under the walls themselves add to the dirtiness of the room. Do you need to install floors under the walls before building them?

EDIT: Nevermind. For some reason, after waiting a few hours in-game, the room stats are now reading a positive 0.60 cleanliness. I guess it just takes a while for the system to update.

you know a persons base has been around for a while when there random blood stains all over the place.
not that im criticizing my colony's usually look the same to much work to little peps to do it.

In my case, you know a colony has been around for a good while, because everything is sparkling clean, because that's when I have the surplus manpower to keep it that way.
Thanks, belgord!

I suggest this mod : Doormat. It's really a janitor's excalibur of your colonist to dealt with cleaning job. The link is here https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=21718.0

You still need to do the cleanning even with this mod is on. But the with the door mat, you can control the dirty spot for your janiter to clean. It is good when put it in front of bedroom so when you order janitor to clean, they won't trigger other colonist disturb sleep debuff. I really like this.

Yeah. When you have exactly one colonist, cleaning is a fairly low priority. (I did have a day of cleaning, like, several quadrums ago, so it's not as bad as it could be) Half of that blood is probably from the lovecraftian horrors that keep showing up: their fate is usually to be made into pants.

I'll definitely consider that for my next playthrough! Seems like a really good addition: I'm surprised it isn't vanilla yet.

under your north door - there's dirt there too.

For some reason option to clean up the dirt does not appear in the right click menu for some time after it appeared, so probably you clicked through tiles in one of those moments.

As far as i understood up to now the square where there is a door is not part of any room connected by that door, it's like a 1x1 room itself and does not concur in beauty/dirtiness/space of connected rooms.
And as always.. sorry for my bad english

From my observations, dirt under the doors counts into the dirtiness factor of a room at least in some cases, just like walls counts into the beauty factor

Your freezer has untiled floor under the doorways, so every time your pawn goes to get supplies to cook, they're tracking dirt out of the freezer & into the cooking area.. also you might try flooring your whole freezer area as I think that helps with food storage too

It's unclear whether you tiled under the stove BTW
