Coal
Mineable resource, about as common as Steel but takes a little less time to dig out. Does not rot, useful for fuelling campfires, torches and generators. Small-value resource, but common.
Coal Power Plant
2x2/3x3 Power producer -- 200 Steel, 5 Components. Like a wood-fuelled generator, except this takes only coal. Would power the equivalent of 2 solar panels. Ugliest form of power production and pollutes environment. (This could mean simply a smoke animation and a slight mood debuff from being near it, or if near plants a slight reduction in growing speed ++ more if pollution is worked into the game as a separate existence)

Only in RimWorld is the phrase "31 Heavily-Armed Siegers are currently bombing your base" preferable to "50 manhunting squirrels are attacking your colony"

Not to forget the sight-reduction if build indoors.

I think the idea of coal could be quite intresting as it could force the smity to use coal instead of wood.
Wood could be piled up for coal production. I don't remember the details, but it worked by piling up wood and setting it on fire, so after days there was coal.
Anyway, It would be a more space efficient enegery source than wood. (Thrumbos might think its very tasty)

coal is already a mod not sure if it was updated for 17b, but I remember seeing It for 16.

there is a chel fuel burner ( instead of wood ) so im sure someone could code a coal one.
