I feel that the age difference between colonists should play a factor in their attraction to one-another. I know that dating above or below your generation is not unheard of (look at France's President) but it should be more uncommon than it is.

The vanilla have love affection for colonist to other in the colonist too in default vanilla setting, I think. According to my experience, I seem to found that the colonist around the same age range (which not gay) will try to woo each other more frequently than they do to elderly or young adult. Still, they rarely woo with those who is out of their age range too if their's no one at the same age around them.

So, it's wise to move the schedule of lover or married couple to be difference than single colonist since they still have a chance they'll cheat each other all the time  .

In the base game, men are most attracted to people their age or up to 10 years younger, women to people their age or up to 10 years older. The attraction factor then drops off smoothly until it hits its minimum about 25-30 years younger or older than that.

So all else being equal, your colonists will prefer relationships close to their own age. But if there's no one eligible around, they do have a chance of looking outside their normal age bracket.
